I have a women's waistcoat from Givenchy Nouvelle Boutique. It has a handwritten size and fabric content label and tons of hand sewing. Does anyone have any idea how to date this? I know that Givenchy Nouvelle Boutique opened in 1968 and this looks like it might be from the late 60s... is it rare to find the handwritten label or is that customary for that era?

It might be a sample as sample makers will write info on center back labels rather than production dept producing mass quantity of manufacturer's label of printed info for the consumer. But if this was made in France and for that period, who knows.

Thanks for that!
I got a bunch of YSL Rive Gauche from the early 70s that my mother purchased new and it all had handwritten labels but I know she got them from the boutique in NYC so they weren't samples. Maybe Givenchy did the same thing... I found some garments on the web for sale that were from Givenchy Couture and they were incredibly pricey, but I don't believe that this is Haute Couture.
I just want to make sure that I'm not misrepresenting the piece on ebay. I also want to make sure I don't have something that is worth more than I think!

Try asking on the ebay category specific boards there is one specifically for Vintage clothing...they are pretty knowledgeable about vintage clothing. Good Luck!
