Here's a link to the latest storm track path for Dennis. I'm posting this as a link instead of an image to speed up loading time, and also it goes directly to the NHC and updates automatically at 5 and 11 every day. As of this posting, it looks like Glassgrl and LtRay may not have to open their front and back doors to let Dennis pass through. And Ralphie may not have to put on his galoshes.

Well here's hoping the only fireworks they will see are the memories of ones they saw during the 4th of July.

Evacuation process is underway in the lower parishes and New Orleans and gulf coast MS.
Best of luck to all in Dennis' path, keep safe. My bags are packed and will be heading North in the wee hours of the morning. For my friends and family in Florida..my prayers are with you all too... Hugs Maggie

This just in in the Florida Panhandle.

Unofficial as yet, but my husband just came back from Tyndall Air Force Base (Panama City)and he was told that there will be a mandatory evacuation issued Sat at 12:00 noon for all citizens in areas south of HWY 20. It will affect all areas in the Florida Panhandle.

My guess is they are waiting until Sat to see when and how the storm enters the Gulf.

Eglin AFB has already issued a mandatory evac to all of its personnel.

Gas prices here went up .10 last night and if you can find gas today, it is even higher!

We are all busy here making sure supplies are in place and yard is "hurricane proofed"

It doesn't surprise me a bit. Dennis ripped through Cuba at cat 4 with a gust clocked at 149 mph. It took out 85% of their communications infrastructure in a wide area. It's now heading out over open and unobstructed water in the gulf. The conditions are right, and at this time, there is nothing to keep this storm from reaching category 5 as it heads for the gulf. This hurricane has the potential to be a killer, in the same class as Andrew. I strongly urge anyone in the projected target area to get out now and wait on the sidelines until it passes. Sometimes, discretion is the better part of valor.

we be hunkered down over here - I don't know about ltray.

DH just freaked out when the weather channel said they're predicting it to turn back into a level 4.

Not a whole lot of people left the beach either.

I've been offline for about 3 hours. DH wanted me to move the computer downstairs in case the windows or roof went up here but guess what folks? If you have cable modem it's set up for 1 frigging spot in your house! That makes NO SENSE at all. After wrestling with it I gave up and called Knology and they said a technician would have to come out and reset it. I told him we are in the middle of a hurricane and I didn't think I could get anybody out here soon. So I drug it all back upstairs.

So THAT"S why you'd be interested in having your desktop wireless! I always wondered that. But still - only being able to use it out of 1 outlet in the house is bizarre! I feel like Bizzy at the PO LOL!

Going to bed early and up with the birds. We've had two feeder bands come through today - otherwise it's been sunny and calm.

The main reason I posted the first link was that is is showing Panama City as being the 3rd most likely point of landfall, right behind Pensacola and Mobile. The IR satellite image shows the eye is fully reorganized after Cuba disrupted it and slowed Dennis down to a cat 2. In a 6 hour period, it reformed from a cat 2 to a cat 3 over relatively cool water. It's now heading for warm water and the NHC is betting on a minimum cat 4 coming ashore at about 2 PM tomorrow. You'll most likely lose power and cable, so notify your customers about delayed responses to email and avoid a few unnecessary negs.

what customers?

about the landfall predictions - yeah I know. It's only been since last night (or is that nyte?) that we moved off the top of the list TG. Even though they've been saying Mobile we were at the top of the number chart. I truly didn't understand that.

we're only freaking out a little bit! DH is GLUED to the weather channel.

Glassgrl...The weather channel can be a little slow on the updates. If you want to stay on top with the latest, have your DH go here: http://www.nws.noaa.gov/. The links at the top of the page are the latest that are available to the public. Also, the map on the main part of the page can be quite helpful. Before landfall, there is a very real risk of isolated tornadoes. Most of these develop from severe thunderstorms quite quickly and without warning. You can track these thunderstorms, and with a little practice, tell by the radar images which will likely become tornadoes. It'll give you a few more minutes to take cover. Right now, most of the state of Florida is under a tornado watch, so be careful. Some of those tornados can be worse than Dennis.

GG, I can't believe you are still out there on the beach!

Make Terry take you to the tower or come over to Callaway. That storm surge is going to be a nightmare. Even Chloe is getting anxious. Not a good sign.

The bridge won't be open for much longer.

TG the old weather guy on the weather channel just said they felt like they could rule out PC as being a direct hit. You always kind of trust that guy don't you? He said it looks more like Destin or Pensacola for now.

I'm cooking supper - broiled chicken, cornbread, peas and dressing. If I have time after that I'll bake some Oatmeal cookies

Our dogs are fine, they're not nervous at all. They are charged up and chasing each other through the house playing.

Windy rainy and gusty.

Terry said it is illegal now to take shelter in an FAA facility. He's already been on the Tower Telcon this morning. Pensacola is worried since they lost their roof last year.

We're ok. Thanks for worrying

I have my laptop and pocketbook packed and by the door.

Glassgrl...Do you still have power? It looks like it's going to come ashore between Pensacola and Panama City, which is much too close for comfort. Here's the latest Tallahassee radar image. The eye is well defined and very close to you.

we have power for the most part - glitches and knocked out my Dell!!!! Had to fire up my old computer.

VERY Windy!! very VERY windy!

Trying to stay online to figure out what happened to my Dell!

"loading PBR for Descriptor 2....done. a disk read error occured"

(not spelled right who cares)

Ran the boot diagnostics and got "return code 7 failed".

Have no idea where my boot disk is and hate to lose all that stuff on there.

If there was a power surge or dip, most likely the partition is corrupted. Norton should be able to rebuild it, or if not, you may need to get a copy of Partition Magic. In any event, you should be able to recover your data. Keep us updated on what's happening there. Landfall is coming very shortly. Grab something solid and hang on tight. And good luck

DH is saying it's hit already - somewhere between Destin and Navarre Beach.

I said that NOAA isn't showing that but what does a girl know?

It's awesome to stand out back under the porch and feel the wind!

It came ashore just on the east side of Pensacola. There is a severe tornado in the eye wall that looks like it hit Pensacola. If you click on the link in my post above, it will take you to the Tallahassee radar image. On the left side of the page, under "Base Reflectivity" will be the words short range and loop. Click on loop and wait for it to load. You can see Dennis as it moved ashore. Note the red color on the northwest side of the eye as it comes parallel to Pensacola. That is a very powerful tornado. Escambia county and it's neighboring county are under a tornado warning now.
