Our Shell gas station ran out of regular and plus, only premium left.

Oh Beth how horrible! It's so hard to understand why things like that happen.

My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family now. If I can help in any way, please let me know.

Please accept my deepest condolences Beth, I am so sorry for you loss. We are reeling from news we got on Tuesday that good friends of ours who lost their youngest grandchild in a crib death 2 years ago, lost their 2 1/2 month old granddaughter in a car accident a few miles from here. An 83 year old lady went through a stop side and hit them, killing the 21 year old driver, the baby and his 15 year old aunt. The mother Sarah is in serious condition. We know them all, and it's so hard for them all.

Another reason to love T-mobile: look at what they're doing to prepare for Ike.

We have stereo cards of the aftermath of Galveston after the 1900 hurricane. They are so scary!

Hope everyone on the coast gets out in time. My family is in Dallas which is also in the path. I am holding my breath that it is not bad there.

WOW...a lot of prayers are going to be needed!!!!!!!

About half of the nearly 300,000 residents of coastal Brazoria County stayed behind in defiance of evacuation orders, officials told NBC affiliate KPRC of Houston, as did about half of the 110,000 people in Beaumont. Tens of thousands more in other areas also disregarded the National Weather Service’s warning that coastal residents refusing to evacuate “may face certain death.”

I just do not get why they did not leave. I hope there are no children near the coast. It irritates me to think that a parent could be so callus with a child's safety. Even if it turns out well it is unacceptable!

Beth, HwaHwa and anyone else in Ike's path, I hope the storm did not hurt you much. I'm pretty impressed with how smoothly the immediate aftermath seems to be going, compared to Katrina. Check in when you can.

Well,we are just west of Houston, right next door.
Last night around 9 pm,we lost power but we stil have phone and gas (I was cooking a boneless chuck on my gas stove).
I went to bed around 11 pm and all night long I heard the pounding wind and I said to myself,if we are getting it rough, think how Houston is taking it on the chin!
This morning I looked around my house,I see no damage.
This afternoon I drove into Houston along Westheimer Blvd ,thats 'the street' in the city and most traffic lights are not working but there is plenty of traffic .
Most stores are closed, all gas stations as far as I can see are empty bu a few stores are open and there is a long line with shoppers waiting with their shopping carts -these are the supermarket and Lowe .
Mcdonald ,CVS pharmacy are open,I think Danny is open as well.
I think most people are looking for ice cubes as 2.1 million Houstonian households are out of power and it may take 2-4 weeks to regain power.
I came home and open the garage door manually ,the I walked into my house and all the lights are on,so Here I am.
I heard things are pretty bad in Galveston and south Houston with lots of flooding, some hotels have generators just enough to light up the public area !and no one can find a gas station with gas!
But it is over,no more rain and no more wind, but the flooding just begin.
