When ebay goes to Paypal only as a form of payment in October is that going to be legal for them to TELL us what form of payment we can accept??
Maybe grounds for a lawsuit of some sort??
I sure think this will put a big dent in our sales !!

The legal weazels didn't say PP only they said no more chks or Mo's and they give a few options. Excellent CYA job. almost iron clad.
I see a few million part-time sellers like me throwing in the towel. Setting up a CC business account or an account to transfer my money from PP to my bank so I can sell on eBay..I gotta wonder is it really worth it?

PP should rake in millions each day under this new ruling so us little folks we won't even be missed.

You can also have a merchant credit card processor.

I'm a small time seller a merchants credit card processor is a bit over the top and too expensive. I would rather have those chks & Mo's! If I stay with eBay I'll just suck it up raise the prices and sign on to PP.

The way I see it - this is an excellent time for enterprising credit card processors to court eBay sellers. If they can't compete with Paypal rates, then PayPal must be charging us a reasonable rate for their service. I prefer to pay by PayPal - I understand some buyers don't and we might lose their business.

I guess I still don't see how eBay, as a "venue only" can dictate to me, as a seller, what forms of payment I can accept from my customers. An analogy: I have a shop at my local mall and rent space from them. The mall owners tell me I only accept credit card payments isued from the bank which is also owned by the mall owners. I understand that eBay is NOT saying "ONLY PayPal" and is letting us accept other forms of electronic payments. My point is that I don't understand how they can limit, in ANY way, what forms of payment I'll accept from MY customers. It just seems to me that eBay has seriously overstepped its jealously-guarded "venue" status.

eBay has not declared it is a "venue only" site for some time now. We need to move on.

I am a member of the IPDA. The Association recently filed a complaint with the U.S. Department of Justice, Antitrust Division, regarding ebay's new requirements regarding accepting payments with PayPal and CCs only.

The pertinent part of the response from DOJ was: "Many consumers feel that they have limited choices, or have lost choices, or that they are being forced to act in a particular way in their commercial dealings. While these are legitimate concerns, they do not necessarily raise antitrust issues."

So, while the complaint by the IPDA will remain on file with the DOJ, no investigation of ebay's payment changes will be done at this time.

It was further suggested that ebay users write their concerns to ebay. If you do so, I suggest that you send a real letter not some email which can easily be ignored or deleted.

It seems to me that eBay freezing out checks and money orders has a very strong flavor of anti-trust, especially given that paypal is their own subsidiary. I also would not be at all surprised to see Google file a claim for action over the freeze-out of google payments. Google has the money and the huevos and as it has just shown with google Chrome it is not afraid to take on anyone. eBay on the other hand is weak, the listing deal with buy.com points to their desperation and stupidity, the retraction of ebay from key foreign markets also points to their extremely weak/short-sighted management. I am very sure you will soon start to see Meg Whittman dump her shares as she knew it was time to get out as CEO. I have seldom seen a management of a publically owned company so hell bent on self-destruction.

I think the Australian govt won the case,Ebay cannot specify Paypal only.
But Aussie Ebay is a lot smaller than USA Ebay, anyone can register and sell on Ebay and if they say money order only, they can get away with not shipping and disappear?
Of course you can file mail order fraud with post office,FBI,local police etc,but how long do you have to wait to get your money back,if you do get it back?

I don't mind paypal only until it gets to a higher price item and a questionable buyer. I always wanted the option of stating that I can require a money order.
Just image selling a $2000.00 item and shipping it to someone with 2 FB's. Or a $500 item that cost $400 to ship. Too much at risk. I don't even want to even think about it.
