My 13 yr old son (KYLE) is waiting for the "K" storm...he had no interest in them until he saw that he had the same name as one this year. He has his map, ready to plot it out day by day. Luckily, being in the Shenandoah Valley of VA, we just get some rain.

Floridians.....buy the plywood now before it doubles & triples in price.....

Thanks Pepsi for the pic.
I have some new kind of hurricane shutters going up tomorrow. They are like a corregated plastic with velcro fasteners. Easy to take of and on.
Here's the site
http://www.storm-stoppers.com/index.htm

They are supposed to withstand 130mph winds.

It's the *velcro fasteners* that I don't get. We saw that advertised and DH wanted to get them since we can't have the regular kind. We have some kind of crazy Styrofoam molding around our windows that looks like cement and you can't put the bolts into it. But then you think about the wind and Velcro???

these are bigger heavy duty velcro. If you read the website it tells you about them. Also read the testimonials. You can always call them and tell them your set up and see if they can be used in your case.

I heard a weathercaster say it seems that the first hurricanes laid down a railroad track that the others are following faithfully.

I was in Germany a few summers ago and noticed that most of the homes had metal retractable shades that could be easily rolled down over the glass windows. I wondered at the time why folks in hurricane areas didn't have these? When I see people nailing plywood on their windows, I thought that the Germans had a MUCH better idea. Seems to me that these roll-down metal shades would be a whole lot easier to use and offer better protection.

blueeyes - yes they are available here but very expensive. The plastic shutters I am going to do are even cheaper than plywood and easier to put up.

I hate the wait to see if we leave or stay. Were right between Savannah Ga. And Charleston S.C. Anything higher than a Cat 1 and we go inland to get away from the water.

This reminds me of the year that Wilma, Charlie, Bonnie and others came. Made me want to move from Florida or anywhere near the coast.
NC and Virginia - be safe.

Niel - are you near the coast?

Now, it's headed for ME!!! I wonder how far inland it can come.

I grew up in Corpus Christi and went through Carla, Beuhla and Camille. We used to put our ping-pong table (large slab of plywood) over our den window and the children would hide in the closet under the stairs. My father did not believe in evacuating.

Then you got to spend a week cleaning up and pretending not having electricity was fun. But at least no one was hurt.

Hunker down other Texans.

Well, sorry not to respond but sometime Monday night, my little brother was killed in a home invasion. He lived here in Karnes County on a farm off the beaten path. Two days with the Texas Rangers and just now getting up to speed on hurricanes and eBay.

I'm not in Corpus but live in Kenedy which is inland. We had a hurricane 40 years ago, evidently (according to some old timers); I guess we are due.

Give your siblings a hug, guys.
