Pocono,

"That time, it was the "color",

not the race,

but the color was "green".

Excellent answer!!!

Hepburn - Thought you might enjoy this....even Johnny Cochran says "it's not about race". Just read that today.

I agree with you, Hepburn, in cases like these, the victims seems to be quickly forgotten. I cannot forget the pain and suffering that little girl experienced. I can also identify with the loss her family must be feeling. You're not alone in your opinions.

I have this underlying quilt I feel, for not having any empathy for the boy, which makes me seem unreasonable. I keep imagining how I would feel if it were my own little girl, and the torment I would put myself through wondering what her last thoughts were, as she was being pummeled to death. Why I wasnt there. If she cried out for me. It torments me now, and I am not even the mother. So my anger manifests in words directed at that....boy. I will refrain from offending anyone with the word I want to use in describing him.

Thanks lindak. I know others feel as I do. It just seems all focus is on he who is alive, even though he will be locked up for a long time. HIS mother gets to visit him, hold him, see him, hear him. Tiffany's mother doesnt have that priviledge.

Hepburn: But he is such a sweet innocent little tike...

That nasty, rotten, vicious, vile little girl DESERVED to be beaten, mauled, mangled, mamed, and tortured by this 300 pound little rascal.

Oh, let him go... after all, it was all just a cuddly, frail little cow poke frolicing in fun.

Lordy, lordy. Yes, compassion runs rampant here. BTW, it's tyke. And where I come from, it's not only immature to make such asinine, knee-jerk comments like what has been said, it's ignorant as well.

"Tike" is a valid variant of "tyke" (albeit lesser used). But then you knew that, right?

bunn: Ignorance knows only one way in most instances.

DID I SPELL THAT RIGHT?

*unable to self-moderate, but above the kindergarten mentality, so I will refrain from pointing out spelling errors*

Forgot to add: It should have been a CAPITOL PUNISHMENT CASE!

That kid is a cold blooded murderer, and will be taught well what pain is.

Hey bubba, gotta smoke?

---I've got a question.

If the boy was being tried as an adult---why was his mother making decisions for him???--

He was tried as an adult, because his mother was too damn stupid to take the plea!

3 years in juvenile detention!

For MURDER!

AND SHE TURNS IT DOWN!

Aint a lawyer in the world could have kept me from THAT deal.

It's very sad though, that some here would defend him as innocent, because they share the same race.

The poor little girl was black also, so maybe SHE should have some FREE representation based on HER race, and maybe SHE should be given a second chance.

Oh yea, I forgot... SHE'S DEAD!

Some 300 pound kid MURDERED her!

The boy is punished for the sins of his mother? That's not justice. Don't get me wrong, I'm not exactly sympathetic to the boy but if his predicament is a matter of mommy f*cking up then that isn't a fair standard of justice.

Also, not to belittle your point but it doesn't help it when you say he was 14, she was an infant and he weighed 300 pounds. The true facts are damning enough that they don't need to be embelished.

I don't see anyone defending him as innocent---he killed someone. The question is--did he have the awareness of an adult to know what the outcome of his actions would be.

But if they sentence him to life imprisonment---- they would treat drunk drivers in a similar manner----if they kill someone with their car while under the influence it should be automatic life imprisonment.

Zazzie, unfortunately it's impossible to set a uniform standard of justice. It's too subjective, each state has laws that are entirely separate. Why should it be that if A murders B in one state he will face the death penalty and in another he'll face 'only' life? Human beings are so poor at meting out justice that we find a terrible chasm in sentences. We may have a murderer who is on the street in 7 years and an embezzler who is doing three life terms. There really is no way to apply one standard across the board (and certainly not the lowest common denominator -- I never understood the argument that this one person in particular who got the book thrown at them -- and deserved it -- should get more leninecy because some other bad person somehow weasled a smaller sentence for themselves).

Perhaps my view is tainted because I can look at my 5 year old daughters face, and just imagine someone BIGGER then her 275 pound, 6'5" daddy PUMMELING her to death!

Picking her up over and over and over and slamming her to the ground, and through coffee tables, and then pouncing down on top her, and dropping elbows on her, and giving her PILEDRIVERS.

Yea, maybe my view IS tainted...

Let that baby killer rot!

Pocono---we all have children--so don't bother with that ploy---we all go to sleep at night and sometimes wake up at night in a cold sweat because we dreamt that horrible nightmare that we have no control over--where are child is hurt and we couldn't save them...

---oh yah---and your sweet 5 year old will someday be 12-14 years old and have the brains of a slug.

it has nothing to do with what you teach her or who her friends are---it just happens....some kids it lasts a few days--some a few years

They said "near 300 pounds"

I will take your word for it though...

---it is about some other child who did a horrible despicable thing to another child.

"some here would defend him as innocent, because they share the same race. "

I object - I am human also but I reject him as my brother. Humanity goes beyond genetics and includes compassion of which he has none.

In this country everyone seems to view things like this as a crime against the state.

I would not have any trouble at all viewing it as they do in Saudi Arabia - It is a crime against the family and they can forgive or exacute him as they wish. It was their little girl far more than the state's.

Then all you forgiving sorts could forgive if it was YOUR child and the ones who don't believe it was an "play accident" could hack his head off with a sword.
