Hi everybody, I have a serious question regarding Peeps. Now as some of you already know I am in Australia, and as Peeps are not native to Australia I thought I had better ask advice before I act.

This is the first time that I have had anything to do with Peeps in the real sense, but I have often seen mention of the little darlings here at AW. Now as I was doing my bit to help the Easter Bunny with his shopping burden, I happened to come across an assortment of Peeps, pink ones, yellow ones, little chickens and tiny bunnies.

Let me first tell you that when I tasted this mouth numbing thing for the first time, my thoughts were, OMGeeeewwwwwwwwww.
So okay have you figured out that I did not really like the taste. You could be on the right track.

Anyway here is my dilemma, I have seen posts about the peep and some say it is best if the peep is left to mature, so okay I am willing to give anything a try once.

Now how long do I let it sit for, and do I leave it in the packet sealed up, or do I open the packet to let the air in to help the maturing process? Are the yellow ones better than the pink, and are the chickens any better than the bunnies.

As you can see I know not a thing about Peeps, so someone please answer.

Well, Nettak While I would love to offer sound advice... I'm afraid that I have been brainwashed by a certain Barry(PeepHater)Barris and I now believe that all peeps are truly nasty.

Doesn't matter if it's pink, yellow, green or orange. Leave it in the sun for twenty days, in the dryer for thirty cycles or... whatever. Peeps are just unworthy little critters that try to infilitrate our minds with their fluffy marshmellowy goo.

I'm afraid you have a true peep crisis on your hands.
Not paranoid anywhere else but here!

I don't know anything about letting them "mature" cuz I don't eat 'em, BUT...

my husband will only eat the yellow ones, as he insists that the other colors taste different. Does not matter to him if they are rabbits or chicks, but they must be yellow.

He's a certified freak, though, as he hates chocolate...so take that for what it's worth.

To properly ripen a peep you must ever so delicatly slit the plastic open. Let them sit at least two weeks, preferably longer.

The yellow ones are the best, followed by the pink. The blue are ok and the purple are just barely tolerable. White ones taste blech.Chicks are better than bunnies but bunnies ripen faster.

A peep crisis is nothing to mess around with. It was smart of you to ask for help.

Well thank you for such sound advice.

Rawbunzel, I will follow your advice, I still do not think I will like the little critters but anything is worth a try at least once in your lifetime. Thank you for your advice. LOL

debbielennon Your husband doesn't like chocolate. Divorce him. Who in there right mind does not like chocolate. haha

Mybid I think I am starting to agree with Barry[the very smart peep hater]Barris. I could not believe how truely gross they are. Who ever thought to put sugary stuff on marshmallow and the marshmallow leaves a bit to be desired as well. It was bite, spit, spit , spit. Eewwwww. Yukky. See it is worth a double disgust.

Ooops. The peeps made me make a mistake.

They really aren't too bad if you put them on top of a cup of hot chocolate.

Better yet save them till next Easter. They should be just about right by then.

I was going to give them to my niece, but I could kill the kid, so I think I will just wait until I have a visitor that I do not like and get rid of them that way. LOL

I might try the hot chocolate trick and see what they are like.

I can not give them to my niece, she may never talk to me again, and I am already in her bad books because I accidently hurt her teddy. I sort of unkinked his neck and she thinks I broke his head off. Of course her mother doesn't help and her father just keeps reminding her about her bad aunty. (Maybe I should feed them to him) Hey I just had a thought, I can blame it all on the PEEPS.

If all else fails I guess I can just leave them sit on the microwave for a couple of years and see what happens.

nettak,

It has happened. I told everyone it would.

The Evil Peep Plot has gone international.

Now the Evil Peep Poopin' Peeps have infected Australia.

THIS IS NOT A GOOD THING!!!!

The Peeps must be stopped before they take over humanity.

nettak, you say

Anyway here is my dilemma, I have seen posts about the peep and some say it is best if the peep is left to mature, so okay I am willing to give anything a try once

Please do not let them mature. Once they mature the Peeps will eat your brain until you are just a zombie being controlled by the Evil Peeps.

Destroy all Peeps before they destroy us.

Barry (how I hate them ^#@#&&% evil peep poopers) Barris

Barry(smasher of the evil Peeps)Barris, is it alright to flush them, or can they swim?

I am getting really worried now. K-Mart has infected Australia. We could be overrun with Peep Poop. OMG I hope we have a shovel big enough for this massive problem.

I promise Barry(the saviour of humanity)Barris, I will do my best to rid us of these dastardly preditors. I will jump on them until they are all squished.

LMAO

so that's how the peeps invaded Australia, they were imported by K-Mart.

nettak, I like to talk about Peeps more than I like eating them. I sometimes eat the ritual packet of Peeps for Easter but otherwise they just make great toys.

Rawbunzel is the peep gourmet extraordinaire. I'd follow her advice if you truly want to make them as edible as possible.

BTW I got another big box Nettak! I haven't peeked at the contents yet, I'll do that a bit later this morning, I'm excited. There might be tim-tams with my coffee this morning

thank you and hugs nettak

{{{Enchanted}}}, I hope it makes you feel on top of the world and yes there could be Tim Tams in that box. LOL Enjoy.

Now back to Peeps, I am not sure that I could even force myself to have a ritual packet, I can not believe how disgusting they are.
Talk to you later.

Netta, now I'm as aussie as you and I have to be completely honest with you and everyone else - I haven't gotta clue what you are talking about.... what the heck are PEEPS. They sound rather cute but disgusting at the same time. Please tell me what they are so that I don't go to K-mart and buy them.

Nettak if you slit the bag open I suggest you wait until you are unable to remember for sure what year you aquired them. I am sure you must have some jewelry with a diamond. When you can draw the stone firmly across thye surface of the peep, and it does not dig in but slides across smoothly without making a mark they are cured.

Eewwwwwww they are starting to frighten me.

Kazanne, don't by any hon, I have a packet you can have. I will send it over with my son. LOL Make sure you do not leave it where the dog can get at it, because you might find that it could cause harm to the poor animal.

O.K. Netta, now you've told me all about peeps, I'll give em a try. If I don't like them, I could always feed these damned possums with them. Maybe I will have found a new way of eradicating the possum problem.
As you said, my son with the cast iron stomach will probably love em'

What did those poor innocent little peeps ever do to you.
POOR POOR PEEPS such an awful way to go.
My daughter was laughing and screaming at the awful things they were doing to those PEEPS. I asked if that was any worse than her eating the poor little guys heads off.
She laughed at that too.
By the way this little girl having fits about her favorite candy is 17.

They may eat us,
and they may freeze us,

they may blow us up,
they may bite our heads off

I particularly like the seperation proceedure of the quintuplet peeps. LOL too funny. hahaha

Thank you everyone for your wonderful advice, I have yet to try the peep with a hot chocolate, but I will give it a go. Sorry Barry (the peep hater forever)Barris, just one try and then no more.

I think I will stick with our own little fluffy marshmallow bunnies. At least they are edible, and cute. LOL
