This guy started smoking AFTER the warnings were already on packs. What a joke. Maybe I can go play in a toxic dump just so I can sue and never have to work again - I Love Amerika.

But it is COOL to smoke. I watched a pimply faced little kid light up the other day and I could see all the benefits.
He has them rolled up in his sleeve like a real tough guy and does the little wrist flip to make a couple hang out. Then he does the little tapping the ends ritual on the table and retrieves his flickin' bic from his shirt pocket. He tilts his head back and to the side for a perfect profile squints a little and draws that first perfect lung full of crap before reaching up quick to snatch it out of his mouth. You have to hold it in your hand cupped just so to look cool. It is as ritualized and orchestrated as a Japanese tea ceremony. Of course when you are a callow 14 year old it loses some of the dramatic effect but it still sells.

Sugar, you mentioned how we would be paying for it through Kraft and other PM holdings...
Here's some supporting documentation for you:

Kraft's debut: $8.4B IPO
Blockbuster week ahead for IPOs: Kraft, Willis expected to rise

My father is 66 years old. At age 8 he was beat repeatedly by the neighborhood bullies until he smoked. His father beat him to try to get him to stop. It is sad. So easy to pass judgements without walking a mile in someone's shoes.

I have watched this man try to beat his addiction. He knows what the future holds for him, yet his addiction is much stronger than his fear.

The tobacco companies have known all along what effects nicotine has on people. They have developed machines to test the amount of nicotine passed thru the filter and into the person. They have aimed their advertising at children.

Yes, I will one day lose my father to cancer. Sure, it is partially his fault. But, he is hopelessly addicted to cigarettes.

I still would sue - even if I knew the money would go to charity, I would not care. If it saves one family the anguish we are going thru, I will happily become their poster child.

Congratulations to the man who won the lawsuit. I hope he uses the money to make a difference in other people's lives. Then his death will not have been in vain.

I am sorry to those who do not agree with my opinions - it is just that I am wearing those shoes - and they really hurt.

Becky
