They don't show everything. I remember reading his explanation about the blood on the face. He said that they wanted to let the other team know that they caught a pig on the next challenge to sort of demoralize them. He said that he was joking around and said that they should all come painted in pig's blood as 'warpaint' and to illustrate he smeared his face.
Of course when they showed it on TV they cut out that entire narrative so the context was lost and he just looked like a total nut.

He could have had the narrative on TV - I still think it is 'gross'!! Pig's blood on your face -

Yes - I was very disenheartened to see Burnett say they actually re-shot several scenes so they would look better on TV. That kinda takes away from the show - huh?
Not that I thought it was true survival anyway - but re-shooting key scenes.
Kinda makes the lawsuit from the first show look pretty valid.
