Does anyone know what happened with Propay?
At least from here, they've were out from Friday midday (EDT) till sometime today (Sunday). When I called Friday PM late, the receptionist didn't know anything, and then came back with a vague, "they are having some database problems", and will be back up in 30 minutes. (Yeah, sure they will!).
They are back up now, seemingly, but I've learned the hard way not to trust companies when all seems OK. They don't seem to have posted any announcement on the site, in spite of a 2 day outage. What makes me somewhat nervous is that Netcraft.com reports that they are running the NT4/IIS 4.0 combo that remains vulnerable to CodeRED II DOS and crashes even after patching.
I''ve got a backlog of customers requesting that I initiate a ProPay payment request, but I'm reluctant to do so, till I'm sure all is well. Obviously, the nightmare scenario is that someone got in and trojaned their system using a server left open to CodeRed II. If it did happen, based on my Apache server logs over the last few weeks, they'd be just one among about a zillion major companies didn't get patched in time.
(FWIW, I'm very cautious with PayPal, but have had no actual problems, other then their constantly changing of terms on the fly. And, the PayPal site is WAY faster than ProPay's, possibly because PayPal runs on Linux instead of WindowsNT)
