Boy am I an example of a disgruntled customer! And believe you me I used to recommend Paypal to people.

I get a delightful email some time ago informing me that my request to transfer money from my bank account to my paypal account was being processed...

Er, except I hadn't requested such a transfer!!! So I go through the usual paypal email customer service routine... (i.e. difficult to tell an auto response from a customer service person response) and I end up calling them with no better service.

Our organization recently elected a new president, and as my name isn't on the account they cannot help me. Sure, I understand that - let's fix that NOW. Where do I fax the documents you need I ask. I'm told that it will take days before anyone can get to this, and it won't be resolved immediately...

Excuse me???? I've just notified customer service that "somehow" money is being transferred out of my bank account - without authorization, and they won't look into it until they process the name change which could take days???? Not only do I want the transfer STOPPED, but also I want to know "what the heck happened!!!" Is this fraud, a computer glitch, a security issue???

So realizing that these are minimum wage employees, I call Palo Alto HQ.... Not much better a response except a comment that there has been a scam going on to get people's passwords and bank information... Oh great!!! They tell me change your password and everything should be OK!!!

I change my password - I try for TWO DAYS to fax the documents over to PayPal - it is busy, busy, busy.... Meantime of course I have stopped payment on the amount at my bank.

Well delight of delight, of course the payment is stopped, and now PayPal has frozen my account -- and of course I'm still no better off getting through to customer service -- who knows whether or not they've received my change of name documentation.... How do I unfreeze my account SO I CAN CLOSE IT!!! And believe you me, I'm closing it and switching to a new service as soon as I can.

What a joke...

I UNDERSTAND that Paypal has to be diligent and I appreciate that they have safeguards. I do NOT understand their appalling standards of customer service -- and they are making (in my humble opinion) a GREAT mistake if they think that customer service isn't important!!!

Whether the issue is $2, $20, $2,000 or more -- They have access to our financial records and accounts, and they'd better be on the ball with their customer service - ESPECIALLY when a customer has a security concern...

I have NO FAITH in Paypal, and I'm telling everyone I recommended to the service to unsubscribe... I'm also telling friends of mine in the investment community...

And yes, I called and spoke to the media...

Disgraceful.

You are correct. PayPal has the worst customer service of any company I've ever dealt with. I just wish I had known this before I became a member. They have so many new people signing up every day that they could care less about their existing members. I have closed my account and I'm in the process of trying to get everyone I recommended to PayPal to close their accounts before they experience this crap first hand. I can't believe PayPal actually pays those morons at customer service for running off their customers. I guess its time for the president's labotomy.

I wonder how long it'll take paypaldamon to come up with a ridiculous canned response for this post.

Does anyone have information regarding how to prevent PayPal from accessing my bank account/reversing deposits made to my bank account? Do I have to fill out an affidavit at my bank? Do I have to change my account number?

You can close your PayPal account and go to your bank and file a complaint against PayPal. Tell the bank that you are afraid that PayPal will defraud your account and PayPal won't be able to come anywhere near your money.

i know there is a paper you can sign at your bank to prevent all organisations from accessing your account, both debiting and crediting your account .
i dont know if there is a way just to block one organisation and if there is a way to allow that organisation to deposit fund but not withdraw fund??
the best way is to close your paypal account and ask your customer to pay by check,mo or wire transfer or other cc processor.
This is a problem with all retailers who accept cc transactions.not just paypal
