Paypal has restricted my account and is requesting that I fax them a copy of my driver's license and current bank statement before they'll lift the restriction. Their reasoning is that someone from a foreign country tried to access my account so they have to know that I'm me. I don't have a business just some play money for Ebay. It's only $14.40 but it's the point. I called and talked to a customer service rep and there's no help there. They won't even transfer my money to my bank account that THEY have verified and transferred money to and from for over a year. I'd appreciate any advice if anyone knows how I might be able to get my money back without faxing this personal information. I'm just not comfortable with that. Please e-mail me at [email protected] if you can help. Thanks!

Hi danaquilts,

I am sorry to hear of the issues you are having.

How else would we know that you were the correct party unless we could not get identifying information from you? We have several security methods in place to protect our users, as well as our user base, but it can be inconvenient at times when looking at it at first glance.

Your issue has to do with (apparently) someone trying to access your account from an area we do not support, which does raise fraud flags in our system. While it may not seem readily apparent, this is done to protect you from a potentially fraudulent action by someone.

The restriction can't be removed unless documentation is presented. We need to verify that we are talking to the person that owns the account.

Paypaldamon, If I were someone trying to impersonate me, why would I ask that the money be deposited to the same account that you (Paypal) have verified and transferred money to and from for over a year. That's fine that Paypal wants to protect it's customers but if indeed someone were trying to access my money and you deposited it into my checking account, I would have absolutely no problem with that. There's just no logic to this issue and when it comes to my money and my personal information, I deal solely with logic. Please respond.

Hi danaquilts,

What if the person changed the information on the account? I understand your concerns, but I am trying to point you to what ours would be while trying to protect your PayPal account.

Paypaldamon, If Paypal is worried about fraud with my account, then why don't they deposit the balance into the original account that they verified. Surely you have a history on your customers accounts to verify that transactions have been made with no charge of fraud in over a year. That would tell you that no changes had been made.

Hi danaquilts,

I think I have advised as to why we need the documentation to help you with your issue. We need to verify that we are speaking to the correct party. In addition, the transactions need to be requested by the end user (withdrawals, send payments, etc).

Paypaldamon, I understand that you are trying to explain to me why you want the information that has been requested. But you haven't explained to me why, if you believe that someone is trying to get my $14.40, that you don't honor my request and close the paypal account by depositing the $14.40 into the original checking account that you (Paypal) verified. Then that poor woman, me, could have her money and not have to deal with this anymore. Call the bank, I'll give you a name, or e-mail the bank, I'll get you an address of an officer. They'll tell you that I've signed an affidavit that you (Paypal) can no longer access my account and then you won't have to worry any longer about this account and the person that was trying to illegally access won't be able to find it anymore because it won't be there. Do you understand that this is making me crazy?????

ASKDARUMA - I posted on this message board in hopes of getting help with MY problem with paypal, not to exchange banter with someone who thinks their problem is bigger and better. I'm sure there are many whose problem is much bigger and better than yours. I suggest you pour this energy of yours into solving your problem and let me solve mine. And I am old enough to have a driver's license and possibly old enough to be your mother.

Hi Ask to answer your question about giving them info. After the testimony I heard in my arbritation with paypal mon. and tues. I wouldn't send them anything because they are completely unrelyable and do not have any written guidelines as to how to do things.
