I sent a money order to the seller. She emailed me that she had not received it so 15 days later I sent another money order. The post office was slow to get back to me about the first money order but now says it was cashed. I have emailed the seller and tried to call but get an answering machine. Any suggestions on what I should do now? Has any one else had this happen to them? Thank you for any help you can give me.

File a claim with the postal inspector. they will look into who cashed it and when and if she cashes the 2nd one they will compare the 2 signatures. Don't expext anything real quick though, they are slow.

If it turns out the money order was signed by the seller, you have a potential fraud case. If it was signed by anyone else (sister, uncle, partner-in-crime, whatever), you're SOL. It now becomes a matter for the local police and they don't seem interested in this type of crime.

If it was a postal money order, give the info to the postal inspectors, you shouldn't be SOL - if it was signed by someone else and cashed, I believe the post office is liable.

Thank you for your suggestions! The post office says they will do nothing about the altered name unless the check was for $5000.00 or more- but they will refund for the first money order in time. I have given the matter to the police in my area because the police in the sellers area said the case must originate here.
The seller did finally reimburse my money.
I hope the guilty party will be prosecuted, but I have not heard from the police in the sellers area, so I doubt it.
