I started posting my fixed shipping costs so they show up on eBay, and now my international buyers keep going through the check-out using the US shipping costs. I do not figure out costs for International buyers because it varies depending on where its going. Is there anyway to prevent them from using the eBay check-out and submitting the incorrect costs? And I do not want to use the re-direct option. Thanks for your help. And by-the-way, your site is running nice and smooth and fast right now. Hope it continues!
Unfortunately, it isn't possible to prevent only your international buyers from using eBay checkout. The only way to do this would be by turning on checkout redirect, which would also redirect your domestic buyers. The only thing I can think of that might help in this situation would be to use calculated shipping for your international buyers (with a mark-up if appropriate). That way the correct shipping cost would be given to them when they use eBay checkout.
I have been using the redirect with a calculated shipping and mark up for international buyers, just as Nathan suggests.
I include a line in the template that states "Quoted shipping rates are for U.S. shipping only. International bidders will pay shipping & handling rates
based on a calculated packed weight.
Please see calculator below."
The only small glitch is that when listing with redirect,
eBay requires a fixed insurance rate when listing. (I base it on my starting bid and figure if the item actually sees a bidding war, I am more than happy to cover the extra dollar for added insurance.)
I was very hesitant to use the redirect for a long time, but once I finally did, I found no problems and have never regretted it.
