I am trying to figure out how this works.
The images are supposed to delete automatically if they are not in use. I have some listings that have sold and the image is still there and shows newly refreshed. I am wondering if it's because the listing is still there but it's not showing any inventory.
So I am trying this, I am now deleting the listing and I am hoping the image will delete like it says it's supposed to. Is this the correct way to make this work?

Hello,
The automatic deleting of old images happens when the image is not viewed/clicked on and have it's counter reset for an additional 90/45/30 days (depending on your preferences.)
Sometimes older images will stay around much longer than expected, as some people on eBay search through closed or expired eBay listings to 'borrow' images or item descriptions, or simply in research.
The older images should fall off eventually as their flags become unavailable to be reset (when not in use and no longer available via closed eBay items) however you can always manually purge the images directly from your image hosting page.
If you dont re-use images more than once typically, you can simply sort your image hosting page by the image upload date and clear out the oldest ones quite easily.

Go to image hosting then Recycle Bin in image hosting , then empty recycle bin , if you delete the old auction the picture still stay there !!! The recycle bin is a WAY FOR VENDIO TO JUMP YOU TO THE NEXT LEVEL OF IMAGE HOSTING PAYMENT !!! as it stay 14 days after the 30/45/60 days AND ITS COUNT AS IMAGE AND SPACE !!! be carfull , if you dont need the old pictures empty the recycle bin !!!

Hello,
That is correct, once you or the system automatically deletes pictures, we do keep them for you in the recycle bin for 14 days.
There were numerous requests for a method of restoring deleted images over the years so a few years back we added this option per user demand.
It's quite handy for those 'oops' situations where you suddenly realize that you really did need that picture and now (thankfully) you don't have to retake it.
If your absolutely sure you don't need the image again and your only deleting them to stay under your limit for image hosting, go ahead and empty the recycle bin. Otherwise images sent here will simply purge in 14 days anyway so be careful doing so as once purged from here, we cannot restore them back for you.
Regards,
Christopher
