Hi, just noticed your announcement re ebays new requirement for specified shipping on all auctions. I do not understnd how I can possibly do this. I ship varied items in weights and sizes to all over the world from France. As each countries postage cost would vary depending upon its distance from France how can I possibly put a specified shipping amount into an auction before I know where the item is being shipped to. Perhaps I am misreading this, but if I am not then it is very worrisome and difficut to understand. I would appreciate any advice from Vendio or fellow sellers. Thanks in advance. Steve

Exactly !! I just checked and three auctions I thought launched This Past Thursday, had not. Ebay would not launch them due to Specified Shipping Issues. Shipping Details are Detailed in my auction.
As I read it, some ebay categories require either calculated or fixed price shipping. My items are large and require freight carriers. There is NO WAY that I can specify shipping charges upfront. Hopefully, Vendio can add a "Freight- Please see Item Description for Details" Button" .
I use Sales Manager PRO. Have been prompted to update to Sales Manager PRO 7.1 (I think that is the version)in the past. Haven't done so, Use Windows 98SE and don't believe it is supported.
**Also, I hope the simple answer isn't to check the box " Local Pick Up Only" This leads potential bidders/buyers to believe that they can't have the item shipped and that their ronly option is to personally drive to the seller's location and pick the item up.

What is the answer or best way to handle this ??

Using the calculated shipping options qualifies as specified shipping. I have been using if for years with no problems.

Hi wgonzales, thank you for the info. Is your method easy to use? Could you give me a quick little tutorial? I have never used any of those features in the past. Have always just used a straight auction with shipping quoted on the invoice. It would be appreciated. Another thought that I had was just to add 50 euros to every item and give free shipping. 50 euros is just about what my items average to ship to the states where about 95% of ny sales go to. Is that feasible. Will ebay let it go through? Thanks again, Steve

You can set up the basics from the Calculated Shipping Options section of the Global Preferences page.
Then just add the weight and, if necessary, the package size as you set each auction in the Shipping and Handling section of the Create Listing page.

I am sure a moderator can explain it better than I can. Or, there are detailed instructions in the Sales Manager Merchandising Edition User’s Guide that you can access from the Help page.

Hope this helps.

Susan

The venue ebay has possibly returned the following message:

09/01/2008 07:45:00 PM US-Pacific Time Zone

1. Error 21915469: A domestic shipping service wasn't specified.
* At least one domestic shipping service must be specified when listing in the French category.

Hello, I don't understand what I am doing wrong now. I listed several new auctions and per the new ebay shipping rules I listed DHL as a delivery service from France and put in a shipping price. All the auctions were kicked back with the above message.
How can I specify a domestic service when I am shipping from France to all over the world. This is very confusing to me and I need someone from vendio or a seller expert to explain to me exactly what I need to do to get my auctions listed.
I would greatly appreciate any help someone may give. Please bear in mind that I am not by any stretch of the imagination a computer expert. So for anyone that answers please keep it simple.
Is it my imagination or is ebay making it more and more difficut for sellers to do business on ebay. All of their new rules seem to be making life more difficult for the sellers. Thank you, Steve

Hello Steve,

Your items look really close to being ready to list with these new rules. Just move your shipping carrier/cost into the domestic section, as since you list TO the US eBay.com site, the domestic fields are for your shipping costs TO the US, even if your not located there.

The new eBay requirement is only that you have to list a single domestic carrier, so move your cost into the domestic field (assuming this is your charge of shipping to US locations) and resubmit the items.

Chris

Thank you Chris, I tied it and hope it works. Just moved everything up to Domestic and put in USPS Priority Mail instead of DHL. I wasn't sure if I should also put in the International shipping or not so I left it out as you said to only list in one place.
The whole thing sounds silly to me. But nothing surprises me anymore when it comes to ebays dreaming up these wierd rules which all seem to favor the buyer and not the seller. I don't understand why a seller like me who sells from France has to list in the Domestic section.
But I guess better minds than mine get paid big bucks to figure all these things out. Thanks again, Steve

Hello Steve,

It is a little fuzzy for users that aren't really from the US when filling out the form, but just think of it as the Domestic section is just where you list your shipping costs TO the US, and if you want to provide shipping costs to anyone outside of the US, put those into the international section just below it.

Since the new requirement is just that you list a domestic shipping option (the cost to ship the item within the US) - thats really the only one you *have* to fill out when you submit the item.

Chris

Merci beaucoup mon ami, Thanks again Chris. The only problem I see with your post is that I can't put an international specified shipping in in advance because I won't know who or where the buyer is until they win the auction. Other than that I hope it all works. Steve

Hi Steve,

You don't have to list the cost of international shipping, but if you wanted to, you still can.

If you click the link next to the carrier name, which otherwise defaults to your 'ship to' locations, you can choose what parts of your ship to locations you want to limit that carrier/cost to.

For example, you can specify just a single cost carrier to be used for buyers in Canada, or Mexico, or list rates just for buyers in other regions that are part of the eBay 'Ship To' section. Otherwise these buyers can simply contact you for a rate after the listing closes as you had been doing.

Chris

I am from Canada and am having problems with the specified shipping also. Please tell me how to get more than one option for shipping from Canada to US to show up on the eBay listing. I typed in the two choices I use (Air and Surface) for my customers in the US shipping section as you described in this thread but only one shows up on the eBay site )the first one. How can I rectify this? It appears you have many international users on Vendio. Could you please tell me how to put in my two choices so that they both show up in the auction listing. I am not even bothering with the International shipping prices. BUT I offer 2 choices for my US customers and now I don't know how to do it. Please help.

Hello,

Unfortunately only one of the blank/custom fields where you put in your own verbage will be picked up by eBay, so in order to offer more than one US shipping option and have that show up not just in the Vendio checkout (and in your item description) but also in the eBay specific checkout area - you would need to use just one of the blank fields and use one of the preformatted carriers listed for the other. (even if in the end you use a different carrier, as long as the type of service and cost are correct.)

Chris

I also wrote to ebay and here is the response I received. Hopefully it will work by entering info in both the domestic and international sites. Good luck. I am going to try it on my next listings. lets keep our fingers and toes crossed. Is it only me or do I have a sinking feeling that ebay is doing everything possible to make life harder for the sellers. I have no idea why they would do that but it sure seems like starting with "a seller can't leave negative feedbacks" any longer to the last few brainstorms that they came up with. Steve

Dear Steve,

Thank you for writing eBay in regard to the excessive shipping charge
message you continue to receive. I recognize your frustration and want
to quickly address your concern.

When selling on the U.S. site the system will expect a seller to ship
from a U.S. location. The site thinks that you are getting your items
from a location in the U.S. and shipping from the U.S. hence the cost
should not be around $40.00. As you are listing on the U.S. site and
are shipping from France the system will continue to identify your
shipping charges as excessive.

More information on listing on the U.S. site can be found by clicking on
the link below. This will take you to the Announcement Boards on the
eBay.com site

http://www2.ebay.com/aw/core/200808291513272.html

More information on the excessive shipping can be found on the eBay Help
Pages.

http://pages.ebay.com/help/policies/listing-shipping.html

As long as you are using actual shipping costs, reasonable handling
fees, and clearly describing and explaining your shipping details you
should not encounter any policy violation issues. However the message
will continue to appear as you list the item.

In reviewing one of your listings I see that under U.S. Shipping you
have selected Expedited Flat Rate Shipping. I also noticed in your
description you indicate you are using a service that will deliver in
7-10 days plus a 10 day handling time. I would suggest that you change
your selected shipping option to reflect the service level you are
actually using (Standard Flat Rate Shipping). I also see that there is
no International shipping service indicated. I would suggest you
complete this section of the sell your item form too.

Thank you using eBay for your online trading needs.

Sincerely,

Cheryl K.
