Please tell me if I am doing something wrong or if this is a glitch in the system. If I create a listing as an auction and also click to save as storefront item - the quantity shown in inventory is 1 available (not 1 at auction - which is where it is). If I create a listing as a storefront item and then edit the auction info and launch from there it is shown correctly in inventory as 1 at auction. How do I create a listing as an auction and have it show correctly as being at auction in inventory).

Hi Planejane,

In create listing page, you can save the listing contents as an inventory item, and also to sell some more identical items in your store.

Selling in your store is done via inventory. That is: every item in your store is also an inventory item.

Saving an item in inventory means only that all the information for the item is saved as an inventory item for future use. If you do so, you can visit inventory, edit the saved item, and change the quantity, or maybe add specific information for other venues, etc.

If you want to monitor via inventory the items at auction, you will have to launch via inventory. That is: create a new inventory item with site specifics information for the venue on which you want to launch, then from inventory pages, select the item and click Launch. (Or: use the inventory item created as in your examle then launch form inventory)
If you want to create listings from sales manager, and monitor them via inventory: create the listing (with save to inventory enabled), schedule the item, then unschedule it. Now go to inventory, and launch it from this page as above.

Hi Marius, here's the thing. If I create an item to keep track of in inventory I have to create it as a storefront item and it won't allow you NOT to put it in the storefront (ie: I can't get to the auction editing section until I've actually created it and then go back in to edit it). This means that I have items going into the storefront that I don't want in there at that time. Even if it's for a short time until I go back in and edit it out. Conversely, if I create it as an auction & save it as an inventory item, I then have to delete the original auction and go back into inventory and re-launch the auction. Either way it seems a very convoluted way to have to keep track of inventory. I switch my inventory from my auctions to my storefront regularly, so it is important for me to track what items are where. It makes for confusion and the possibility of the same single item showing up in two places. Perhaps your PD guys can think about a more efficient way to streamline this process. A simple solution would be the ability to create 1 inventory item in the storefront area, but be able to enter 0 as the number of items in the storefront at the time that it is created. That way I've created the specs for my item in inventory and then have the choice at a later date to choose where it goes (store or auction).

Hello,

You can create new inventory items to be listed to auction only from the inventory section without placing it available in the storefront as a fixed price item as well.

You do need to attach the images and write the description/title from that page where the storefront data is usually collected, but this is the universal information used for the auction as well. When you enter a quantity available, you are not required to then up the 'quantity available to storefront' field above it's default of zero.

Just edit the eBay site specifics, save, and list from the inventory section. This will track your item start to finish, and will not require you to place any additional items available as fixed price items in the storefront.

Hi Christopher, thanks for that suggestion - I hadn't thought of that and it does solve the "items showing up in storefront" problem. Unfortunately, I think that my original point has been lost in all of this and that is: I shouldn't have to manipulate the system to have an item created as an auction show up as at auction in my inventory. I'm trying to streamline my efficiency - not create more work for myself! Anyway, at least for now I know how to get all the info straight in the end.
