I have tried numerous times to upgrade from 4.0 to 4.2...
each time everything seems to go fine until it reboots.
when it comes back it tells me there was an error during the upgrade.
I am closing all windows before I begin but when it reboots, my McAfee comes up in front of the upgrade box...is this the problem? if so how can I fix it?

I followed your directions and downloaded 4.2. After it was complete I rebooted my computer and tried to do the install. I am getting the error message;
an error occurred during the move data process: -132
Now what? Since I had it write over my 4.0 version, I now have nothing.

Please restart your computer and make sure that no other application is running when you run the installation program for the v4.2 kit. Especially, please close the old SMPro version.

Okay, I think I got it...downloaded again and renamed the file. Now I have it on system twice. Can I do a remove on the old one?
