There has been a lot of talk on this board about people looking for things they could never find elsewhere. I hadn't heard from a seller for a bit now and, since I've been out of town, wondered if she'd gotten my payment etc. (I Paypaled it and had requested an e-receipt).

I just JUST checked and she is already NARU'd with +2 and no negs. I want to DIE! I want this item so incredibly much. It was the newspaper my father put to press the day after Kennedy died... the EXACT newspaper in our small town in Indiana. I even have the UPI wire to match the print. I paid...have not yet received it and now she seems to have poofed...and WITH my money. I could care less about the $20+ dollars...this was my lifelong dream to have my father's paper with the UPI wire and I was going to matte and frame them all together.

I've asked questions here before...even asked one tonight. I could care less about any of them other than this.... I WON this auction and want and NEED this item. HELP!

logansport kennedy assasination [sic]

You can find it ... let me know what you think I can do!

email the seller, and make sure she sends you the stuff.

Just because she's NARU- doesn't mean all bets are off. Unless she's a fraud (unlikely given the itme in question), you'll probably get your paper.

Just sent this email to the seller:
Hi-

I'm just wondering when my item might arrive as it means a lot to me and I've been looking forward to receiving it.

I've also noticed you are no longer a registered user at eBay so I am concerned that this item, which means so very much to me since my father printed the paper, may never arrive.

Please let me know when it was sent. I have my receipt of payment.

Thank you!

Wendy

It still seems odd to me that someone would be NARU so soon...no negs...

Of all items I have ever bid on on eBay, I want this one the MOST...if she had only known my proxy! No one...NO ONE was going to keep this paper from me and now I can't even get it sent to me after my winning bid!

Calling all AW friends!

Please help me lasso this one in!

Wendy, I hope she replies to your email!! After reading your post, I really want you to get this item.

I guess if she's NARU'd you can't pull her contact information -- I don't know what ebay will do (if anything) to give you that information, but if you know her name and her town, can you call information and see if you can get a phone number? Maybe if you call her and appeal to her decent side (if she has one) you'll get your paper.

Keep us posted!
P.S. My daughter once paid for an item and never got it. The seller had numerous negatives and never replied and time passed and time passed, and emails were sent, and incredibly, months later she actually received the item!

How long has it been since you sent payment?

I was once in an identical situation - won something and later discovered the seller was NARU, with no negs. I wrote to the seller, they had sent the item 2 days before, and I did indeed get it a day or two later. Apparently they were good about following through on what they sold, but not so good on following through on some eBay policies.

NanasClutter and Glenda-

Thanks for the good wishes and advice.

This paper means a ton to me because my father died in 1978 (I am only 32 now) and in his wallet was the UPI wire I intend on matching the paper with. It's almost like I'm on a mission for closure... and I would adore to see this edition of his paper on my wall in my house.

If he cared enough to carry the UPI wire around for 15 years, I can follow through enough to get his paper matched to it!

Most of us assume a person who is NARU has been "suspended" for some wrong doing. It is possible that this person decided rather quickly eBay was NOT for them. If I decided to leave eBay, I probably would NOT leave my account open. I would want all my info removed. I probably would ask to have my registration cancelled. Of course, if I did THAT I probably would notify all buyers I was dealing with to let them know NOT to panic. Good luck! I hope you get your paper!

I hope you get the paper.

Even though the seller is Naru, try pulling the contact info, might still work. Of course you could also try the "send the auction to a friend" on the auction page.

Let us know how it turns out.

Check her seller's list. If she sold to others in this time frame, contact them and see if they received their items. If any of them did, see if they still have her name and address so you can look up her number and give her a call. The two who gave her positive feedback may still have her info. I'd check with them also. Sometimes a simple phone call will work where nothing else will.

The light at the end of the tunnel will turn out to be an oncoming train.

If you look at their User ID and E-mail information page on eBay it says: User Suspended.

They have a Yahoo e-mail address and are registered to sell on Yahoo auctions using the name in their e-mail address.

Maybe you can e-mail some of the seller's previous winners. If any of them paid by mail perhaps they still have her address.

Wendy,

Another thing is to pull her info and call her. I had to do this once on an item that I paid for and it never arrived, nor did I hear from the seller for 2 weeks. She also had several negs. I got a hold of her after 3 tries, and she was very nice and apologetic, saying she had some health problems. It really hasn't been too long, I would give it a couple more days, then call her. I try to remember that this is a big world, and things really do happen to people.

You can't pull contact info on a suspended user.

By the way, my best wishes and hopes that you get this paper.

sparkz & kerryann Thanks... good advice...particularly from Kerryann... and my email contact for them WAS on Yahoo so you have opened up yet another question here.

lorndav you are ABSOLUTELY right...time flies in the eyes of the beholder. I just hate the thought of not getting this paper...when it took me two years of searching on eBay for it! Now I am just not willing to let it go. But...I agree I may need to take a deep breath and relax and wait for it to arrive. I would have had no problem in that ideal if my seller hadn't been NARU'd. THAT made me nervous

I want my paper!

God bless the lurkers who have emailed me with info on this seller or with advice on how I can bring my paper home. Holy Smokes. This place rocks.

I can't wait to post a note with acknowledgement of getting my press piece... but until then I am daaaaaaaarned happy to know someone(s) cares if I do!

WOW!

In all of my time on eBay (2 years, I know that's short in comparison to some) and on AW (8 months...and, again, I know that is short to many)

THIS is the reason I ever even thought of looking on auction sites. This paper. My Dad's by-line on the JFK assassination. THIS.

I found my most wanted item. I found it. I bid. I WON. And now I can't get it mailed to me.

Actually...let me wait a few more days before I say I can't get it mailed. But I *can* say I can't get the seller to acknowledge me. (paid 8/13 with Paypal)

Would you not LOVE to have a buyer who searched for 23 years for YOUR item?

Would you not try to accommodate them?

OK...maybe I should get off my high horse.

I am a nice person excited about finding and not yet getting...

zemanski To be totally honest with you, if I had a bidder who had been looking for an item like this, and that buyer informed me of such, I would send the item for FREE, especially considering what I would have paid for a NEWSPAPER!!!!
We all know that a seller wants to make some moola, but at times that needs to be set aside for real life!
I Hope and Pray that you get your newspaper!!!

I have to agree with Keith that if I heard a story like that from a buyer I would send the item free and by the fastest method possible. That would be a wonderful High for me also.

After checking out the seller in question I believe that it is possible they were NARU'd for shilling. If you look at all of their closed auctions you will notice a buyer whose ID is the same as the first part of the sellers Yahoo e-mail. They have 179 feedback in all and they are also NARU'd in the last week.

In addition if you click on that persons feedback you will see that they have left feedback for the same person that your seller has left feedback for. This doesn't mean they were shilling but it does look highly suspicious and if someone said something to ebay they would definately NARU them.

No matter what they were NARU'd for though it doesn't mean that you won't get the item. I can't believe that the seller would not send something that they know means so much to you. I too would recommend that you e-mail them again and let them know how anxious you are to get the item because of your Dad and asking them how quickly they are going to ship because you just can't wait to see it. I probably wouldn't even mention the fact that you know that they are NARU at least not at this time.

Good luck and I hope to hear good news about your receipt of the paper.

Hi Wendy,

I just wanted to let you know that I live right outside of Logansport and I see old newspapers just like this at garage sales and auctions all the time. If I find another one, I'll be happy to send it to you free of charge.

I wish I'd have bought the ones I saw a couple of weeks ago. I just didn't think they were worth that much so I left them.

If I do find a Kennedy paper, I'll be sure to post a message here to let you know.

First, thank you all for such generous words. It was a wonderful thing to wake up to!

I also woke up to a not so encouraging email from the seller. Please forgive the all caps...I am simply copying and pasting.

WENDY, PLEASE DO NOT BE CONCERNED ABOUT THE WHERE
ABOUTS OF YOUR PAPER , DO TO ME NOT BEING A REGISTERED
EBAYER ANYMORE. I WAS LISTED AS A DIFFERENT NAME AT
ONE TIME AND HAD A NEGATIVE SO I WAS TRYING TO START
WITH A NEW NAME, HOWEVER MY SCORE WAS <FEEDBACK> A
ZERO REALIZING THIS WAS HURTING ME MORE WITH THE LOW
AMOUNT OF MY SALES I QUIT USEING THAT NAME AND WENT
BACK TO MY OLD ONE. HOWEVER I'M NOT AT HOME RIGHT KNOW
I HAD LEFT ON AN EMERGENCY AND WHEN ALL IS SET HERE I
WILL BE ARRIVEING TO GET MY PACKAGES IN THE MAIL, I
HOPE YOU UNDERSTAND FOR I WAS NEEDED IN ANOTHER STATE
AT THIS TIME SORRY FOR THE DELAY.

I could just cry. I know there is still a chance I'll get the paper....but let's face it, a darned slim chance. Especially since in this email she pretty much admits what others suspected...her shilling from another account.

I obviously need to step back from this and give the sller a chance to follow through...but I'm already posed to attack since the seller has my money AND the paper I want to badly.

Chill, Wendy, chill. LOL

monkeysuit THANK YOU. Please keep your eyes out for me! I would really appreciate it. Even if I get the one I bid on, my brother would be so pleased to have one, as well.

Have a great day, everyone. Thanks for the support.

zemanski have you tried going straight to the source, the Logansport newpaper itself? The Kennedy assassination was of such great historical significance that many newspapers preserved issues. They may have a copy in their archives they would be willing to part with considering you are a family member of the author. Writer tend to be a sentimental lot when it comes to their work. They might even provide you with a computer print out of all the articles your Dad worked on over the years. Or perhaps provide a list of other writers who worked with your Dad during that time. Just the thoughts of a long winded lurker.

kankakeecollectibles I actually wrote to this paper about two years ago asking for some of his archived articles. (He wrote one about me when I was in 1st grade and also put a photo of me on the front page of the paper at one point [the things you can get away with in a small town in the 70's!] ) The paper's response was a form letter thanking me for my inquiry and basically telling me I could go to the public library in town and find the articles on microfiche (sp?). Well, I can't since I'm in Maryland and (besides, I really want the originals) so I walked away from it and started searching on eBay. Never found a single thing until this auction. I agree with you about writers being a sentimental lot--- my mother is still a reporter (met my Dad at this paper) but now at a small town paper in Minnesota. I haven't told her about this yet because she can't stand the fact she parted with so many papers and articles years ago because it hurt too much to look at them.

Oh... before I actually go to work for the day....one more thing. monkeysuit one other paper I would really love to have but I doubt will ever find is the April 24, 1978 edition. Maybe it's April 25th...I'm not sure. You'll know if you see it, though... has a front page story about the paper's editor dying in a car accident. I don't have that, either. Mom got rid of everything. And forget your offer of free! While that's very very kind, I'd pay you ten times!

Wendy...you said "This paper means a ton to me because my father died in 1978 (I am only 32 now)" ...then later you said "asking for some of his archived articles. (He wrote one about me when I was in 1st grade and also put a photo of me on the front page of the paper"

If your father died in 1978, the same year you were born, how did he write a newspaper story about you when you were in the first grade (which would have been about 1984)

As I stated, I am 32...I was born in 1967. Never did I say I was born in 1978...I said my father died in 1978. I was ten. (I know that adds up to eleven...he died in April and I turned eleven in October.)

Hope that clears up any confusion for you.
