I, Muriel, being tired of working, bored at her job, and looking to pursue a different career, would like all my buddies to give me some good advice on becoming a seller. How do I start? What's your best piece of advice? Is it really worth it? I'm a great buyer - I think I'd be a great seller. Thank you!

Hi Muriel, get ready to work about double the hours you're working now for a starter

Hi, Muriel.

I can honestly say that deciding to quit m'job and become a full-time online seller was a good move. I'm very happy with my choice -- even on the days that I'm not particularly happy with m'job.

So -- biggest piece of advice? Be willing to try new things. Be aware that the markets online are ever-changing --and you have to be prepared to change with 'em. Even my best market -- which has remained the same since the day I first started selling -- experiences small changes from time to time which make how I market my stuff different.

And try to remember that uncertainty can be fun. (Actually for all that I might complain about how uncertain my income is my actual monthly profit has increased 5 - 10% each month for the past nine months. And I'm selling less. So I must be learning something. LOL!)

Make sure you have enough money to survive for six months or more as well as run a business.

For those who have the option, I recommend that they take a leave of absence

I'm tired and bored too, and I own my own business. There it no end to misery. Why else would I hang out on such a tiresome thread, but sheer boredom. Yawn, why not sell on Ebay full time? What do you have to lose?

E-Gang: I just read another thread by loosecannon which contained a lot of good information. You don't need to post anything else here if you don't want to. Unless you feel you have a really good "tip" that I should know.

MY best advice dont give up your day job till you got money in the bank and been sucessfully selling regularlly .

if you bored at your job selling will kill that fast with out leaveing online auctioning isnt easy at all and it has some serious up and down when sales are good you will be breaking a sweat in a snow storm with packing tracking slackers wresteling dead beat fighting for mailing address in advance of payments so item are just ready to ship when you get paid.

also even though there is paypal and stuff Items you sell this week will not be cash in your hand or bank for up to 30 days.

all the listing fees, shipping fees FVFS packageing and so on will be cash out of pocket before you see money.

save aleast all the money you will need to live on for 2 to 3 month inless you have a job when you leave thaqt will be paying $$$ for leaveing. also save that much for buying ,shipping, packageing and stuff .

Its low cost as far as a start up but its not cheap . if your serious file for a business permit right off, set up a salery to be paid to you right off save tax and SS and so on out of all sale to pay just as if you were getting a pay check good book keeping a must .

you will be giveing up investment in retirement health insurance dental and bonuses you are use to from your job that you must take care of your self.

in order to really make it you are going to loose a lot of friends you have to a must cut off all ties to any negtive people and doubters they will drag you down on your bad weeks big time.

giveing up a pay check is not only a big step even though no doubt the frist week you will be charged after that its gona hit you your out here on your own .

you will be reading here about people who are haveing great sales while you have listing in there last hours with no bids and praying.

you will be reading people upset and depressed here about bad times that will have you wondering if you should go check the help wanted ads.

I dont sell full time but I am very serious about getting enough sale to be full time and when sales went bad over the summer I had cut myself off all includeing these message boards to keep and good out look to work on the problem I had and improve what I was doing to get sales back and beleave I could.

I Had to learn near every word out of my mouth nearly had to be a sales pitch .

there are some doubters it is hard to cut your self off from I spent the last year and a half convinceing my wife this can work even if I dont get sales on line there are buyer locally the sales will come. she was a laugher MY mother lives with us she is on disabilty my brother came to live with us for a bit me and him sat at computers side buy side working on ways to make this work at frist the two laughed togeather it not real it wont fly hope your haveing fun and not takeing it seriously the frist few months were tough.

the $5 check .25 checks and stuff they would cash and say wow you guys earn lolipop money the kids are happy for an hour.

She now beleave but keep in mind I been at this now since 1994 and when we come home from a frustrateing days are mial looks like we won a few small lotterys daily not easy at all in many ways.

I knew though she was comeing around when a few weeks ago when on are way home from work she said hey guess what I found a few of your pay check from april I forget I had and never cashed.

I say hold the day job then you will always enjoy the ebay as gravey...If I dont feel well I dont have to list. But, without an income, there you are listing away. Good luck

dman took the words right outta my mouth.

Don't quit your day job "cold turkey" to sell. List a dozen or so auctions one weekend or one evening when you have time. See how you do. Do you have reliable sources for merchandise lined up? If you don't, you're toast. After you've made your trial & error type mistakes then it's time to quit your job & get serious about the auctions if you're still so inclined!

Best of luck!
