Sheesh! I had a bunch of auctions end on Saturday and immediately sent out e-mails to my high bidders with the details (payment forms accepted, how to pay, bla bla bla...) and in the email I always put 'please reply to this email with your address so I can get your package ready'. Here it is, four days later and five people still have yet to contact me! I don't want to be nasty or sound pushy but ebay rules do say that the buyer and seller must contact each other within 3 days - right!? It used to seem like I'd get one or maybe two each week but five!? How do you all get your buyers to at least let you know they are on the same planet as you and do at least intend to pay??

twiceblessed...we had a thread not too long ago where the Buyer was very upset that the Seller had the audacity to expect that information up front and would not acknowledge the EOA, just send the money with the address information enclosed. I think most of us felt it was a little anal considering you have to have their address in order to ship the item, but some don't like to put their address on the web.

First, make sure your EOA actually got to the high Bidders. Could be some e-mail glitches afoot. You might want to send out a reminder that you like to pre-package their item and maybe even from another e-mail account if possible. Also, if you accept PayPal, check your account in case it came over that way.

I use very tough winning bid notifications. They look pro, like they came from the IRS. I used red for my fonts on the email me your address within 3 days of receiving this notification - This will insure prompt delivery of your package --Then I write that WE post feedback on every transaction - within 10 days of the date of this notice. I get response pretty fast - all those that respond, I know pretty much they will pay me, those who don't are usually going to be the deadbeats

I am having the opposite problem! I won an item this past weekend. I immediately wrote to the seller asking for a total so that I could pay them.

The next day I wrote again. They wrote back and asked for my address so they could figure cost. I replied.

The next day they sent me a blank form letter-no postage cost or total, just blanks. I wrote them again, asking for a total.

4th day-no response so far-I wrote one last time and asked for a total.

Still waiting.................

njrazd, that's a good point (about the buyer maybe being leery of giving out their address). Maybe I need to go about it a little differently? I really don't need their address, I am just trying to get my bidders to touch base with me and asking for their address so I can 'get their package ready' seems like the most polite way to get them to acknowledge to me that they are planning to follow through w/ their end of the deal. I send out follow-up notices to everyone this morning who I had not heard from and did get one response, from someone who had paid via paypal but misspelled my email address (which is something I worry about when I never hear from these people!!) I check my paypal account regularly so I know the rest didn't just pay (unless they misspelled my email address). Maybe I am just expecting too much but I am getting kinda leery of people who don't contact me within a few days because I seem to be getting more and more people flaking out on me lately!!

That's a great idea artdoggy! Maybe they are overlooking the part where I ask them to reply to my email! If it was red they'd be sure to see it! Also, I don't give a 3-day timeframe, I just ask for a reply.... I'll put the 3-day part in there so I won't feel like I'm being pushy by re-emailing them on the 4th day! thanks!

I'm having the same problems. When I do get a response its usually the bidder backing out of the deal. I think people are trying to get that last vacation in before scholl started again.

Twiceblessed: I feel the same as you about wanting to touch base with the buyer after the auction ends. What I do is advise them of the forms of payment I accept and add that if they want to mail payment, just to let me know and I'll supply them with my address. This way, I either get paypal'd immediately, or they write asking for my address to mail payment. Either way, I know I have to hear from them and I'm not just sitting around wondering if the "check's in the mail."

Good luck!

Technically it's three 'business' days for notification. eBay doesn't consider Saturday and Sunday as business days even if they are business days for them.

Huh?

Yep! This line of thinking is one reason why I no longer have anything closing on the weekend.

Hi all! I am VERY new to this site (3 days) and have spent quite some time reading the postings. (I have to say, artdoggy, you are quite entertaining!)
Any way, when my auctions end, I email my high bidders right away (cuz waiting for eBay to notify them just takes way too long)I sell film stills and collectable photos, so shipping charges are always the same, except for international bidders. My letter goes like this:
CONGRATULATIONS!

You are the high bidder on auction --- for the photo of ---. Your final, high bid was $---. Please add $3.55 postage in the US and remit payment within the next 30 days. If you are located outside the United States, please contact me, as the price of shipping will change. As noted in the auction; American cash, check, or money order is accepted. Inside the United States, Visa and MasterCard payments can be made through PayPal. Your item will be shipped to you, via priority mail for safety, within five business days of receipt of your remittance. Please note the auction number on any correspondence or payment.

As always, your item comes with a money back guarantee. If you are dissatisfied, please contact me immediately.

Thank you very much for your business. If I can be of any further assistance, please do not hesitate to contact me. If you are pleased with my service, please take the time to complete the feedback page at eBay. I will do the same, when your payment is received.

Photo...........$
Postage (in US)..3.55
Total Due.......$

Then here at the bottom I put my full name and mailing address. I never once had a bidder NOT respond to this email, to let me know when payment will be sent. I have only been selling on eBay for about 6 months, so I realize that I do still have time to get burned, but so far, so good!

Thanks for listening.
Michelle

Michelle - beginners luck. Enjoy it as long as it lasts! The sheer numbers will catch up to you sometime unfortunatley....

I do not ask for winning bidders to send me their name and address, only to acknowledge that they have read my EOA notice, so that I know that they are aware of their obligation to complete the deal. This has been great for the private types out there who have actually complemented me on fact that I wasn't asking for their info up front; a show of respect for their privacy, if you will.
Most of those send payment along with only a last name and shipping address; usually a P.O. box. I have no problem with this as long as the M.O. is a goon un!
