I don't use the PayPal logo, so it's really not an important issue with me but one of idle curiosity. I looked at the PayPal logos a bit ago and I noticed the animated 88x33 logo isn't acceptable on eBay anymore.

Why? Is there a valid reason or is it just a case of eBay being eBay?

Where did you read that the animated logo was not allowed? There hasn't been any rule change from eBay to my knowledge.

I saw the same thing today, on PayPal's web site. I think under Auction Tools.

If you log on to your PayPal account and look at the auction tools you'll see 4 logos, only one has eBay's "Good Housekeeping Seal of Approval" the small one without the animation.

Interesting, 'cause if you don't log into your account and go to "Logos" under Auction Tools, there are only 3 - and the smallest (88x33) is animated. Maybe they've got different ones for verified and non-verified accounts? There are 7 different-sized ones, different from the others, for web accounts.

eBay only seems to specify the size and hasn't changed that lately; I think they wanted the change to a non-animated logo to make PayPal appear less competitive with Billpoint.

At the moment it dosn't look like an enforceable issue, but it would be wise to use the non-animated one for future use.

I think eBay has people employed solely to come up with stuff like this to annoy sellers.

Odd how people have decided that eBay - despite any lack of evidence - has "obviously" made its policy more stringent for one company.

PayPal no longer says the animated GIF logo is compliant for eBay. I do not think PayPal would do so to annoy their users. I can only draw the conclusion that eBay is pressing on PayPal which has the lion's share of credit card transactions. It's a mute point. PayPal is heading for domination and Billpoint will be all but DOA when PayPal has foreign credit card users.

This is the first I've heard about any of this. That's a good point about PayPal versus Billpoint. I won't use Billpoint, because they charge for each transaction, and Pay Pal is free, so is BidPay. I use animated logos for both of these sites in my auction descriptions, and will continue to do so until I hear from eBay.

mballai: Please tell me this, if you would. When you log into your account at PayPal and click on "Logos", is there BOTH an 88x33 animated logo and an 88x33 UNanimated logo?

Also, if you would, please, then log out of your account and click on "Logos" under Auction and tell me if the logos are different from the ones you see when logged in?

It looks like you need to be logged in to see both animated and unanimated small logos.
I believe the only diference is the name of the gif.

Yeah, I like the one with the credit cards. It, in my opinion, helps to bring attention to PayPal's service. But it is one that is not allowed.

I tried both Billpoint and pp. PayPal hands down! As another poster mentioned, when pp goes international - BP watch out!
