When I was doing some research, I ran across an auction for an item similar to something I wanted to sell. Great photo, great layout, very attractive setup...with about thirty lines of text saying what a miserable piece of junk this item was!
I think I can safely mention that it's an exercise video, and the seller was asking about $5 for it. The first sentence reads something like, "This is the all-time worst exercise video I have ever used," and it goes downhill from there. (I rewrote the sentence enough that it shouldn't be identifiable.)
Of course, the video didn't get any bids and didn't sell. But I'm wondering what the point was of even putting it up for auction unless it was to sell it. And why ruin your chances by giving it such a nasty review? Any thoughts?
(BTW, I happen to have the same video but hadn't looked at it in awhile. I checked it out after I read this auction, and while it'll never be one of my faves, it's certainly useful and pleasant enough for occasional use.)

I'd guess it was an attempt at reverse psychology. I know that sort of commentary works for campy old horror films (been there, done that, got the money!).
