Jeez! When I graduated from college some years back I interviewed at Butterfield's here in Los Angeles. (this was before the eBay buyout). I got one of the jobs but didn't take it (decided to go live in Ireland for a while instead). I wonder if I would have been a) working for eBay and b) getting a pink slip right now??

Not too surprising considering Butterfields doesn't fit in too well in the on-line auction venue. With all of the small businesses who are willing to bend over backwards to give the customer a fair deal on shipping, answering emails promptly, and taking care of a problem quickly should one arise, etc., it's a wonder they're still going.
The surprising thing is that people bid on their auctions. Ever read their feedback? One guy got charged around $50.00 shipping on something the size of a pack of playing cards. That's the rule rather than the exception with Butterfields. Who needs it?
Talk about getting reamed. But I suppose they expect you to "bend over" for the "priviledge" of bidding on their items, and if they mention their huge shipping charges in the description somewhere that that makes it OK.
