Yes in my opinion, they should have notified their valued customers. Sorry to hear about your situation.

I, too, am furious! I have slowly been switching to x.com as my primary bank, including just recently signing up for payroll direct deposit!! Its also where I transfer all my paypal funds.
Now, they pull the rug out from under me!! And with very little notice!!! It took 3 weeks for payroll to get my direct deposit going into this account, I hope I can get it switched in time.
ANY INTERNET BANKING ALTERNATIVES that someone might recommend???
Thanks!

Yes, I just got the notice that X.com will be closing their bank in less then 3 weeks. SO.... I have days to spend my remaining account balance, change ALL of my automatic direct deposits, change my automatic bill payments I use X.com for which means many of my payments will bounce being that it takes three billing cycles to add/change this information through each. I called customer service and tried to explain the hassle this is going to cause and unbeleivably got a reply of "Whatever Sir!" from Michelle, their wonderful customer service representative! A manager is to call me back but from the tone of the conversation, they really couldnt care less! $5000.00 a week moving through this bank and I get a "Whatever Sir!" Of course, according to them this has nothing to do with PayPal but I think it speaks volumes about PayPal since they are partners. 3 weeks ago I had both my X.com account and my Wells Fargo account put on hold due to a botched transfer by PayPal. I was a fan! PayPal has lost my business!

Since auction watch is the one that recommended X.COM to some of us I sincerely hope they forward this board to X.COM I would like to hear what thy have to say. I know they could not give me any answers on the phone this morning. But it seems real dirty of X.COM to me. I also called pay pal since they are a X.COM PARTNER and I was told that they might have checking and debit cards available by January, 2001 If that is the case I think X.COM should wait until pay pal has them in place before closing our accounts. What does everyone else think???

I, too, am very upset about this. I have had my X.com account since they started, and have always kept a very large amount of money in that account. ALL of my Paypal, Exchangepath, PayDirect, etc payments were always transferred to that account. I loved the Debit card feature and used it almost daily.
Here's what really ticks me off. Last week I wrote to X.com customer support, asking them how to reorder checks, since I couldn't find the link on their site that they USED to have. They told me I can't order checks through them any longer and I have to go through another company to order the checks. So, just the other day I mailed in my payment to ImageChecks and ordered a couple boxes of checks for my X.com account. And today I find out X.com is closing all accounts! Why couldn't the person I contacted at X.com tell me this the other day??? I am very upset that they didn't even have the decency to give a little more time than a couple of weeks.
I'm glad I opened an account through USABancshares.com a while back because now that will be my main online bank. I have already received and used their Debit Mastercard and checks. I will just have to change all my online payment methods to transfer money to that account.
For the past week I've also put in my auctions "no more paypal after 11/9". What a coincidence, huh?

uaru: Thanks, I found the thread after my post.
gemtrader2: I agree that they should wait if paypal is in fact going to offer checking, etc.
It would have been nice if they had given us at least 30 days notice!! This is a huge hassle--jimmymunce you have my sympathy!!

akt I don't think they'll close your acct., but on another thread someone said that if you used your x.com acct. to become verified, once you close your x.com acct. you will no longer be "verified."

Ya know, I never fully trusted them, and as a result I never kept much of a balance, though I did send all of my PayPal payments to my X.COM account. Consequently, I set up my eBay payments to be charged to my x.com debit card, as well as stamps.com, which means when these 2 companies bill me again I'm screwed. I don't have another debit card, I don't have another CC to use, I will have to apply for a debit card with my "real" bank (credit union actually) and they make you go through a regular application process just like a CC which means I probably won't get it.
I don't suppose eBay takes ACH payments yet...? Auto-draft? This sucks. With eBay at least I can go back to the old "mail in payment and wait 3 weeks for it to be credited" pre-pay thing, but with stamps.com, without a CC, I dont' know what to do.
I applied with USBANCshares or whatever that online bank is mentioned in this thread, and it's been a few weeks with no response from them.
Well I'm glad, at least, that I didn't turn x.com into my "full time" bank like I'd planned to earlier this year, or it could be a lot worse!

BlackCoffeeBlues: With stamps.com you can set up ACH transfers from your "real" checking account.
As far as USABancshares - I opened my account online and within 2 weeks I received my Mastercard Debit card and my checks. Maybe your account request didn't go through? I would try again. They've been wonderful for me so far. And 5% interest!

Gemtrader: You're welcome! Glad to hear you opened an account with them - I'm sure you will love them. I know I do! And you only need $1 in the account - unlike X.com, which charged $12/month if your balance falls below $100.
Good riddance to X.com, huh?

for all looking for a bank that offer online checking quickly.
I just set up online banking with bankone.com
the apilcation is simple you can make your opening deposit with a your credit or debit card I used my x.com debit card and everything went smooth in 5 to 7 days I should have my bank packet checks and debit card from them.
there is a $5 service fee if the account is under $500 but I find this is average for a good bank and bankone has brick and mortar banks in many states and have been around a while I dont think they will be going no where in the near future.

You guys should also take a look at wingspan.com They are not too bad. One nice thing they offer is a list of banks in your area that will take your checking account deposits via ATM, in case you don't want to send it in via snail mail.
