When you look for the 4 digits ZIP code extension, the result adds things like:

- Carrier Route
- County
- Delivery point
- Check Digit

Will printing the complete result, including the above information help or confuse the USPS system?

I would appreciate if someone knows the answer. Thanks!

Edited for spelling

If you put your address into the form at this URL:

http://www.cedar.buffalo.edu/adserv.html

It will compare it to a data base of addresses and correct minor mistakes
and add the 4 digits. It will also give you a GIF of the addresss to print that includes a bar code that USPS machinery reads and is in the format the USPS desires. Sometimes it cuts a day in delivery.

Thanks Zazzie!

I have always used the extra four digits but I kinda hoped that I found an even better way to have my packages delivered faster... Well, better luck another time!

Wordperfect and, I think, MS Word also have the ability to print the bar code.

My experience is that from Canada, it can save a considerable amount of time, 2 or 3 days, perhaps if you bar-code your letters and packages.

The zip+4 numbers can be found on the USPS site
