So I get this spam from Paypal. They're giving away 50 T-shirts in January, and one of the 50 'randomly' selected winners will also win $1000 in their pp account. They're doing it to say "Thank You" to all their wonderful members.
The catch? You have to be a 'PayPal Preferred' user - which means that PayPal is the only online payment service you accept. ("That's it. there are no other strings attached." ) The email is larded with bold type messages telling you that "there's no reason to accept anything else!", &tc.
I wonder if it's coincidence that I have finally started receiving some Yahoo Paydirect payments from users.
(stupid smiley codes..)

I am seeing a major increase in Billpoint sales about 3/1 over Paypal in the last few weeks.

OK, so how do they know what methods you accept? Are they checking out all of our auctions on Ebay? Is there some program you sign up for to be "PayPal Preferred", under which you agree not to accept any other online payment?
Funny, but I registered for Billpoint and PayDirect about 2 months ago, and just now received my first payments to each. Given PP's track record, I'm not comfortable putting all my eggs in THAT basket.

I got that email. What a joke. Do they really think I'm going to stop accepting BillPoint in the hopes I might win a PayPal T-shirt? HA!
I've also seen a huge (and welcome) increase in BillPoint usage. The combination of BIN with BillPoint's instant purchase makes it so easy to be paid instantly, often before I even know the item has sold.
Sorry PayPal, but I want lower fees, site stability, improved business ethics, and better customer relations. I don't really care for a slim-to-none chance of winning a t-shirt.

In the last two months I have been receiveing More and more billpoit payments too.
Then again I have started includeing a billpoint invoice with every EOA I have been receiveing payment no from 20 mins to 12 hours after auction before I sent these Invoices at the same time I sent my eoa it was takeing from 4 to 8 days to get payments from many even if they paid with paypal.
I also sell on yahoo auctions and sales started picking up there for me and most payments are now being made through paydirect before I even send out my EOA.
as much as buyer complan about atomated sales I think they are enjoying the conveince of bill point and yahoo direct just click and pay no need to change websites even..

I think therein lies the key.

Billpoint is on a roll!!!
I include a link in my EOA to the Billpoint "Help" page and state that the bidder can find out about Billpoint and sign up at the same time. I further point out the $1.00 rebate if the buyer uses a Visa card.
I am happy to say that my Billpoint sales are outpacing Paypal by 2 to 1 and it seems to be growing daily.
Way to go Billpoint!!!Paypal is now in second place as far as i'm concerned

Of the online payment methods available, I've had 3 Billpoints, 4 or 5 Bidpays, 0 Exchangepaths, and countless Paypal... Its by far the #1 method of online payment of my buyers - that doesn't mean I'd offer it exclusively though.

This contest violates California State lottery laws. Since you are required to run auctions that cost money to win and this is not a skill contest, then it is a lottery.
I will be reporting them.

Big effin' deal, they (PayPal) are making millions and they are thanking "all" of their loyal blah, blah blah.....How is giving out 50 lousy t-shirts and one thousand bucks to one person thanking all ??
I don't think so, keep your t-shirt and I'll let buyers use whatever method they want.

I hope you see this post after you've done your whistle blowing (I love to see folks whistle blowing for the joy of whistle blowing). I haven't check into the specifics of the rules, but there is is little item at the bottom of the email I recieved.
Eligibility and participation in the drawing subject to the official Sweepstakes Rules and Regulations. No purchase necessary. Void where prohibited by law.

Hmmm, the rules say you have to have auctions that say only PayPal. It's not a purchase that defines a lottery, it's the requirement that someone buy something - even if it's the services of another company like Ebay.
So perhaps the contest is void in California. I'll let the attorney general's office sort it out.
