Apologies in advance if this topic has already been covered, but I noticed this morning when searching for a book that a big yellow banner came up at the bottom of the search page which prompted me to do a search on half.com. I was able to search half.com right from the eBay search page.

Booksellers, how do you feel about this? I think it's pretty crummy from a seller's perspective, but good for buyers.

I agree. As a buyer, I love it. As a seller with the same merchandise, I would hate it. Unless, of course it was more expensive on half.com! LOL! I do buy new issue books though and they go for major $$$ on eBay. Way, way less on half.com. Also, since half.com is so painfully slow I wonder how many buyers even see that yellow box or care.

Hi, on page 4 of the thread twelvepole linked I listed some reasons all sellers should be worried. Anything taking a customer off the Ebay website is cause for concern.

These searches were from the Ebay homepage. As a genealogist I search my ancestor's hometowns, names, counties or area of interest like french huguenots, ...time consuming, but fruitful.

Saginaw Michigan: Tonight. 2 pages of items.
Last page has the yellow Half link. There are no books on that page! The eight items are: 2 postcards, a 1st day stamp cover, CD sets and 2 LPs and a backgammon game. The first page, with no link, also had tape measures, micrometers, milk bottle, ticket stubs, karoake set, cd's, cigar store token, sheet music, typewriter, old glass photo negatives and violins.

Yale University: 1st page only, with Half.com link: About 25 books, 17 postcards, NFL trading card, ephemera, 2 silk scarves, photos, portrait[antique $ art category], RR certificate, art print. On the 3rd page with a Half link: coasters, photo, writer's unpublished manuscripts, post cards, etc.

Mabie: [For my Mabie family] 12 items, title search. 6 books & 6 pens & pencils and Half link!!!! For a title & description search...22 items. 14 books, 5 pens, 1 Mabie Todd pencil, 1 33 1/3 LP, 1 historical autograph & a link.

Sioux Indians: Title & description. Half.com link shows up along with auctions for moccasins, prints, canvas paintings (antiques & fine art), photos, sterling sov. spoon.

Aldrich: 2 pages, 58 items, title only. Link appeared. Oil painting, vintage beaded dress, stunt motors toy car, pottery jar, bronze statue (in the thousands).....

You get the idea. Not a problem for just book sellers! We take time adding the maker, origin or extras to help set our ad apart from others. In some cases, Ebay could be just sucking them into another site.
