Hi! I am new here, and I really hope that someone will be able to help me out.
I have a complete set of five books, and they are entitled, "The Family Album". Each book is for a specific member of the family, as there is one with "Songs for Mother", one for Father, Sister, Brother, and Sweethearts.
The books have a copyright from 1934 by Paull-Pioneer Music Corp., New York. The book was compiled by W.J. Glassmacher and arranged by Robert S. Keller. The books were published by Irving Berlin Inc.
I have reaserched these books to a great extent online, and have found very litte about them. I searched the WoldCat database, which is a composite online catalog of the collections of the 24,000 member libraries of the OCLC consortium, comprising more than 36 million records for books, serials, manuscript collections, audiovisual materials, computer files, and other media. What I found was that only the Oakland Public Library in Oakland, California has a set of these books.
I am at a loss of where to go for more information about them. If you could possibly provide me with any information that you have, or if you can recommend another source of information, I would greatly appreciate it.

Thanks for the information imabrit. I am not sure if it will be helpful, but at least I know some other titles by Glassmacher.
I do have another question for abacaxi. Do you happen to know what the books have sold for in the past? Why do you say that it is a 'real dog'?

In all probablility what you have is of much value as I have thought about handling items similar to what you have and found that they rarely get bids.
But its worth a try at just listing them and seeing what happens.

I assume that rare items rarely get bids because no one really knows what they are, and that keyword searching probably isnt too productive.
I am just at a loss for finding out more about the items. I will definitely not sell them on ebay, unless I can find out a lot more about them.

Truly rare items do very well on ebaY as people are aware as to what they are.
However very few sheet music is of much value due to the fact that the music has changed much and music of the 30's in longer of interest to most people.
In all honesty what you have is of little value but I could be wrong.
I once came across a sheet music collection that ran in the thousands. Some really early pieces I thought about selling them on ebaY but when I researched them.
Most where not worth the time and effort to list.
But yes rare items are worth money but because you cannot find it any catalogues does not mean tis rare probably not worth listing it in the guides.
If it is rare people on ebaY will find it and bid on it accordingly.

Sorry to tell you this but these books are not likely worth a lot of money. In my opinion (only my opinion, you may not agree), sheet music collectors want the old single song sheets with nice artwork.
Sheet music (single song sheets) from the late 1800's, and even up to the 1950's or 60's is collectible for the art on the cover as much as anything.
The best price I ever got for a piece of sheet music was Rock-N-Roll song from the 1950's, so extreme age isn't always the thing to look for.
You *probably* can't find anything on the books because there is little interest in them.
Yes, they could be rare, but that doesn't mean they are very valuable.
Rare + desirable = valuable.
Rare + little interest = not very valuable.

I've collected sheet music for many years, and you appear to have several song folios. I don't collect folios as they are not the same as sheet music, although they are related.
The most popular folios are ones that feature a single performer or composer. Your folios appear to be a general collections of songs.
I would list the words sheet music and song folio in the auction title and start bidding off at about $5.00. Include a list of the songs in your description. I've had people buy folios just to obtain a single song.
I'm not familar with your particular folios, but my guess is that they may be worth between $5.00 and $10.00 dollars depending on what songs they contain. If they contain songs that are easy to find $5.00 might be the top value you could hope for.
From my experience folios such as yours are more popular with people who want to play music, than people who want to collect music.

Thanks everyone for your replies.
I have contacted several dealers and I am very pleased so far with what I have learned through them. I guess everyone has their own opinion about what these are worth and luckily I have found that there is interest in them.
I do appreciate all imput though. Roadsmith I will contact you if I decide to sell them on ebay. I may not choose to list them, but sell them through other means. If this is the case, I will let you know. If you would like to talk about this, you can email me at [email protected]

Thanks for the links, bitofagrump. I am going to check my local library and see if they have any of these books.
If I find anything good about player piano rolls, I will pass the info your way!

I said that the seldom seen stuff is EITHER scarce and valuable OR it's a dog not worth listing ... there is no way to tell which is which unless you try it.
