Now that ya mention it... I think I remember somebody from eBay suggesting that they might do away with the "HOT" items in the future.
If I recall correctly, one of the problems associated with "HOT" listings is that it might encourage shill bidding on items in order to obtain the required (what was it, 30 bids?) number of bids needed in order to place it into that HOT section.
The "HOT" items aren't really a feature that is revenue producing... and some ICONS need to be disposed of, in order to make room for some of the newer bells and whistles that generate more bidding on the site, thus more money.
I believe that the GIFT icons are also going away and will be offered at certain times such as Holidays or with other such promotions.
Some of the Icons that are appearing in the listings currently are:
Buy It Now
BillPoint
Gallery
Picture Icon
New listing icon
With all of these little icons stamped all over the listings, SOMETHING's got to go!
HOT and GIFT icons are lowest on the priority list.
It's late, and I could be wrong... if Lisa_B or RM come along, perhaps one of them could correct me if I'm mistaken about that particular Voices 1 discussion from a few months ago where this subject briefly came up....

For people that list lots of featured auctions, this is actually a plus. They won't have to worry about people browsing through the hot items more than the featured. Although I've always thought if an item's hot, the price is going to be higher...

That had already been implemented several months ago. Gift icons were made available again the first week of December or so, and will no doubt be removed again shortly.

Glenda: Yeh... I could have sworn that was the plan a few months back... to get rid of the Gift Icons... and bring them out for Holidays (such as Christmas etc.) but I wasn't sure, and never thought to go LOOK for the gitf icons since I never use them!
