A while back we added human click to our About Me page, in order to answer customer's questions in a timely manner. Unfortunately I am now re-thinking this strategy.
I don't mind answering legitimate questions but am getting tired of juvinile obscene chatters that interupt my work to ask me if I want to have sex. We sell clothing but all of our auctions are tame. No adult content...
If you are thinking of using Human Click for customer service purposes you might what to think twice....

I've never run into that before. It must be that your items draw the interest of that kind of crowd. I have HC on all of my auction pages. My biggest complaint is that when someone sends me a request for information I don't know what auction it came from. I just get the generic, "While you were offline" message along with a message from the potential bidder asking something specific about an item. I then have to explain that the system doesn't tell me which item they were looking at and could they please let me know so I can answer their question. That's frustrating.

Right above your HC icon, put something like:
"Please be sure to include the item # with any questions"

Sheesh these must be younger and old people who still have the AOL chat room and IRC mantality.
Ed123
Dont bother with human clicks Use your ICQ UIN number in your listings same Idea less work.
interested buyers with qeustions can leave you a message on ICQ even if they dont have ICQ.

ed123 - Don't be so quick to take offense. I took dman3's comments to be in reference to those interrupting outoftheblue with "juvinile obscene chatters that interupt my work to ask me if I want to have sex".
dman3 - If I am wrong and you truly meant to insult ed123, then forgive my butting in. <grin>

MY comment about chatroom mantality was in referance to the annoying messages outoftheblue say they are getting.
What I was telling ed123 was your ICQ Number in your auction listing is just as effective as human clicks and far less work and effort then linking to human clicks and installing more software in your computer.
Buyer can ask you question about your auction Items for sale through ICQ even if they dont have ICQ.
As to where to get HC try www.humanclicks.com
I wasnt insulting no one here at all.

We sell a wide variety of high end clothing, including women's professional and evening wear. I guess he evening wear may attract that kind of person. I don't mind proposals just not indecent ones and I don't want to know what they are doing with themselves..

You can find human click at the following address. http://www.humanclick.com

I think those of you who are using the HumanClick program should know that the Cydoor "spyware" is embedded in it's software. (www.cydoor.com)
Quoted from http://www.suttondesigns.com/EnigmaBrowser/infospyware.html
QUOTE
"This technology extends the reach of the web, and can be activated both in online and offline modes. The technology's architecture can be integrated into any software program.
Cydoor can update or rotate banner ads not only when users are online, but also when they are offline.
Users who download Cydoor enabled software
-Cydoor's Server tracks users with a unique code that is given to each user
-This way Cydoor can send customized ads to targeted users"
END QUOTE
BTW, you can't remove the Cydoor bug by uninstalling the host program. The only effective way to remove it is to install the AdAware program at www.lavasoft.com.
I'm not sure if you wanted to know this or not.

Hi Blanche,
I had no idea. I use it for messaging purposes only. I don't use it in my auction pages because of the privacy issue (just our Me page).

Hi outoftheblue. I'm glad you don't use it in your auctions and I appreciate your concern about other folk's privacy. If you ever decide to uninstall the program please be sure to download the Ad-Aware program to get rid of the Cydoor bug. It will continue to call home even when the HumanClick program is no longer on your computer and, other than messing around in your registry, that's the best way to get rid of the "bugger"!!

Blanche :
Thanks for posting about the bug. I also found this spy-ware out but running ad-aware as soon as I installed HC.
I also let them know what I think about their policy of non-disclosure to their users. I have a very strict privacy policy with regards to my website visitors and customers and would not want to inadvertently subject them to a tracking bug.

Hi genie9. I'm sorry I didn't get back to this thread sooner but I haven't been online at all today. You're welcome.
I agree that the companies who use these bugs in their software should be VERY upfront about it and offer us a way to Opt Out. I'd really prefer to Opt In but I don't think that's going to ever happen. The URL I posted keeps track of the current "spyware" programs so it's a good idea to check there first to see if a program is on the list before you install it. BTW, Ad-Aware is the only way to get rid of the nasty CometCursor bug.
Happy New Year!!!
