A 2 pound package priority mail with DC will be:
3.95+.40---> 4.35

A 2 pound package Fedex Ground, at most (calculated cross country from the Fedex web site (11374-->90210) will be
4.35

And unlike priority, you get a guaranteed delivery time of within 1-5 business days, tracking, and 100$ insurance. With priority mail you have to pay another 1.10$ for only 50$ insurance.

Just to remind all you sellers, especially with PO rates rising....just wish there were more Fedex service centers around!

I just recently signed up for a Fed Ex account but it was for an Express account not a Ground delivery account. Do you know if you have to sign up differently or qualify to send Ground? I'm calling Tuesday but thought someone here could help. TIA.

I did the same and accidentally signed up for an Express account instead of Ground. I just called them and they transferred it all to Ground for me.

Thought this might be helpful for you that are worried about the rate increases. I just got all of my software installed for my FedEx Ground Account. I have a 6 lb package . With $150 in insurance shipping via FedEx will be $5.28, USPS Priority Mail will be $11.45.

Wasn't there something in the news about a month ago that Fed-Ex and the USPS were partnering?

I recall something along those lines that the USPS would be handling the Fed-Ex ground service where Fed-Ex doesn't cover?

Anything sound remotely right here?

Aaah, but don't forget that residential address surcharge of $1.

...And don't forget the USPS Provides all your Priority mail packaging. Free boxes - several sizes, free envelopes, free tape, free labels.

What do you get with Fedex Ground? Nothing.

Actually they did have some limited box and envelopes when I went to the FedEx depot. The thing that got me was the clerks were not familiar with the ground service as they were the air. They had to HAND COPY the delivery address into a log. When there is a big line and a lot of people waiting that is not going to work! I left wondering how long the attempt would last if they don't have it streamlined any better than that.

A few points to consider -
1. FedEx Express and FedEX Ground require you to sign up for separate accounts and use sepparate forms.
2. Fed Ex rates will be going up in February.
3. Gerally speaking (we ship a few thouand priority mail boxes a year) Priority mai lgoes coast to coast in 2-3 days (no guarantees) while Fed-Ex Ground is 5 days coast to coast. If speed matters and you ar eon either end of the country Fed-Ex Ground is not always a good deal even for the price.
4. Not to sound like I am bashing Fed-Ex. Whenever we have important packages that we have to be sure they will get there on a certain day - They go Fed-Ex - never USPS.
5. For heavier Priority Mail 3 pounds and up the Fed-EX Ground rate really starts beat the USPS rate and provide siginifacant savings. You can even Get Fed-EX 2nd Day Air for cheaper than some of the priority mail rates on heavier boxes.

Listen, and I ain't kiddin. FedEx Home Delivery is 35 to 80% cheaper than USPS Priority Mail. That percentage rises if you factor in insurance.

Morgantown - who used to work for the USPS as a PMR!

WE ARE SWITCHING TO FEDX HOME DELIVERY IN 2001 - AND WILL ENJOY A MAJOR COMPETITIVE ADVANTAGE OVER USPS SHIPPERS.

THANK YOU FOR STICKING WITH USPS - I/WE SINCERELY APPRECIATE IT! LOVE THE XTRA PROFIT!

I read something about FedEx Ground recently and it all sounded good EXCEPT their VERY limited delivery areas.....that to me would defeat their usage AND having to drag them to some remote office, which being in a rural area, would mean a long drive to "who knows where" to get the items shipped.

I'm going to their site and check it again, but unless they can compete with UPS, as far as delivery area, I can't see we would change.

We are already switching most of our shipping from USPS to UPS, as we have a UPS Business Account and everyday pick up.

It will be interesting to see how FedEx develops.

I just checked Fedex Ground Rates, for Residential Delivery and they are over a $1.00 higher than UPS....don't think I'll be using Fedex Ground - and then there is a rate increase coming in February - can't see this as a viable alternative to Priority Mail.

I think I'll stay with UPS, which is less costly than Priority, particularly when you include cost of insurance on items over 6 pounds.

When you check Fedex Rates, you HAVE to add the option of residential delivery, then the price goes up $1.25!!!

Back to the drawing board!

According to my FedX guy USPS and FedX are working on partnering now.

My USPS guy came to see me. There is a program you can buy for $1500. Allows you free delivery confirmation PLUS they will pick up at my store daily providing they don't have to make a special trip. Add to that self-insurance (see earlier post) and USPS seems workable to me.

I now pay $10 a week and UPS picks up at my store 5 days a week, also.

BUT I also operate a brick and mortar store. The options might be different for those who work out of their homes.

Beware all ,, I have been sending most of my larger items fedex ground for months. I have since refused to do business with them. Yes they are cheaper,, BUT ,, and this is a big but... they have a high breakage rate, & I have a package that has been in transit back to me for over 6 weeks.. I have talked until blue in the face to these people, I have asked for claim forms 3 times for 5 broken items,, how many have I received ? NONE ,, Also I have had packages take 3 weeks to get to their destination. I have had a package go from florida to california & then back to North Carolina which is where it was supposed to be. What sense does this make. It makes for some very unhappy customers. As for message that says they gaurantee delivery within so many days,, NOT true. Just had to vent my frustrations on the subject..
