Hello, I have been trading online for a while now and have been hoping to go full time. One of the things that has been holding me back has been the high cost of individual health insurance plans. I have come across the opportunity through an established organization that will allow online auction traders to provide affordable health (maybe dental and vision) insurance for themselves and their familles. This would provide many the opportunity to go full time with something most of us here love to do... SELL in ONLINE AUCTIONS. In order to keep costs down there must be at least 1000 members interested. It will be comprehensive medical coverage, not a basic plan. Heres how it will work. Online trader will join the association and through the association will be offered group medical insurance. Depending on # of members we may have several policies available. Member would pay ALL of the costs of insurance but costs will be substantially lower because of size of group (up to 80% lower). Also it is my understanding that larger groups are not required to have members obtain a medical exam to establish coverage. And that you can cover everyone in your family if you choose. I will be meeting with people this week and want to put some feelers out. WHAT DO YOU THINK? WOULD YOU BE INTERESTED? ASK YOUR FRIENDS, WOULD THEY BE INTERESTED? Email me at [email protected].

I'm a member of the regional Chamber of Commerce and the chamber already has plans available from one of the country's largest health insurance providers. They are specifically targeted to the entrepreneur, sole proprietor or very small business. All of the participating members from this and several other chambers are grouped together as one and covered under a group plan.
They cover a very wide variety of health plans and costs that range from quite affordable HMO plans in several coverage brackets to the expensive cover-all no-deductable luxury Non-HMO plans.
Keep in mind that I do not live in any form of large metropolitan area. I'm in a city of 20,000 and if this is available here it's certainly available in most places.

I agree with Avaloncourt. Go to your local Chamber of Commerce. All that I have belonged to around the country offered Health Insurance to its members. We carry Blue Cross/Blue Shield and it costs about 578.00 a month. Cheaper then our own plan which would be 622.00 a month. We use Blue Cross because we do alot of out of state traveling.

You can also get health insurance through the National Association for the Self-Employed. Other benefits/discounts as well.

I had no idea a local chamber of commerce carried such coverage. The polices I have been looking into range from $98.00 per month to $178.00 per month for single person coverage. And simalar rates for families.

You might also check other sources such as county government. Wayne county MI pffers a health care program to promote small business .
Some development authorities and trade organizationas do also. My wife belongs to Adcrafters in Detroit for advertising professionals and they offer 3 plans. If you are associated with any particular profession such as real estate your board may offer plans.

We owned a very small business & had our Blue Cross plan with The Chamber of Commerce for about three years. We sent them the premium every month & they in turn sent the money to Blue Cross & charged us an extra 8.95 a month for them to do that. One day I received a call from The Better Business Bureau about their plan with Blue Cross. It was much cheaper, better coverage & no 8.95 a month to them to send in our payment. We sent it in ourselves. We joined the BBB that first year & signed up for their plan. We didn't join the BBB the next year & havn't since, but we are still in their group
plan. I think a lot of us never knew the BBB had a health insurance plan, I didn't until they called me. Check it out & see if your local BBB has a health plan, might be cheaper than The Chamber of Commerce as ours was.

And just how difficult is it to join the Local Chamber of Commerce?? Keep in mind that I am a college student who does Ebay from his house... And I just finally got kicked off my parent policy cuz I turned 25. Paying around $175/mo now for Cobra Coverage thru my previous employer (Health/Dental).. Not the greatest insurnace... but.. Can't live w/o out right?
All that & a Bag of Chips Too!!

Have you asked at your college if they have any groups that have health insurance coverage?

Let your fingers do the walking. My Chamber only offers HMO's and nothing else. I live in Metro Detroit. I went through the National Assos of Self-employed and they have good rates for the first year and then go sky high the next. It's very difficult to find a dental and vision plan unless its a discounted service plan. Most of the plans that I found just calling around to insurance agents were actually cheaper and better policies than the group ones through associations.
