I am a part time seller, and I accept many forms of payment (ecount.com, paypal.com, bidpay.com, yahoo pay direct, billpoint, money orders, checks) My question is this: Why are people so apt to use paypal, but NOTHING ELSE...I prefer ecount because they don't charge me....the bidders winning my auctions aren't even using billpoint....just paypal. My gripe with them is that I have had several people "accidentally" send their payment twice (by clicking the send button twice) and so paypal charges me 2 times, and the people expect to get their overpayment back, but I get stiffed at least 30 cents, and it all adds up in the end. I would prefer people to use an online service that doesn't do things like this! Anyone else had this problem? Does anyone else know why paypal holds the "MONOPOLY" of online payments???? Just some things I've been wondering for some time now....responses?

There are a lot of payment options, I've signed up with 10 of them and 4 of them are no longer in business anymore (PayMe, PayPlace, TradeSafe, ExchangePath). I doubt many buyers are interested in opening half a dozen accounts with the different services. I'll accept what ever the buyer prefers as long as the terms are fair at present it seems to be PayPal.

There are indeed lots of choices, here is a list of pay services

Most of my customers use billpoint, I don't know why, but I do like it. It seems I don't spend as much as I would if it was in my paypal account. I prefer billpoint too, just because I have never had any problems with them. I just seen something tonight that was new to me. It is called energyflow.com. It looks very interesting, and it is free too. They even take paypal payments! Have you ever heard of this service? I did start a thread just before I read this one. Well good luck to you, and I wonder if Damon would answer you on this. I think we should be able to get the .30 cents back if the buyer makes a mistake. Damon care to answer this?

Thanks,
Kelly

I think people use paypal for the same reason they use eBay. It's huge, well-known, and stable. Of course, paypal is fully aware of this, and that is why it can get away with things like broken promises and fee increases.

I will never accept anything beyond billpoint and paypal for the reason given by uaru: I have no assurance that these upstarts will still be around in 3 months. And if they go down, I don't want them to take my balance with them.

Hi,

I just looked at the energyflow.com. Intresting site, but I have no use for them.

I just paid for an auction tonight using energyflow.com and my paypal account. The seller only took moneyorders (something I did not realize when I bid) and I didn't want to mess with it...I had some money in paypal so it worked out! But I think they are a bit expensive....besides that I liked them, of course a person always pays more for convience. =0)
