I bought a plastic childs coat hanger today Superman picture is almost perfect , my question is, it says TM and DC Comics INC. 1940, would this be from the 1940 or if it was newer would it have this same copyright date? I have a good picture of it but I cannot figure out how to put it over here.

It could have that date on it even if it was made years later. That just means that it (or the design, or some part) was originally copyrighted then.
