I am condidering adding furniture to my online sales.I sell smalls-beads,books, buttons and baubles! I have seen "Buyer responsible for shipping.", "Item sold where is." and I have seen others offer to deliver or have a list of local companies that deliver and offer the list to the buyer. I have 2 questions. First-If you ship large items - what shipping options do you use and why? And second- does anyone know of anyone in the Southwestern PA area who would hand deliver vintage furniture? Many ,many thanks for any info!! I would be greatly appreciated!

We have sold antique furniture on eBay, and do on our web site, too. We ALWAYS arrange shipping for the buyer. You item will sell much faster if you can arrange shipping. Most buyers don’t know how, and are often over charged by a seller who tries to ship via a van line or such, or worse refuses to ship at all.

1. You would be amazed how many items like small end tables, coffee tables, tea carts, etc can ship UPS.

2. For ALL of our larger items we use Freighters & Craters. They have a web site, but I call my local one, which is actually 150 miles south of me, but picks up for our area and I get a direct quote from them because it is ALWAYS much lower than the on line quote.

3. Go to the Craters & Freighters site at:
http://www.cratersandfreighters.com
and get the number of the closest one to you, remember they don’t have to be in your town, as I said ours comes 150 miles to pick up from us. Tell them what you want to do. Get to know them, and let them know that you will be shipping on a semi regular basis, and they will do an excellent job for you.
We even ship Crystal Chandeliers, too large for UPS via Craters and Freighters.

NOTE: Items which have glass fronts, like glass front bookcases, etc., can be quite costly because of the GLASS - the cost of insurance will run up the price on items with excessive glass.

Hope that helps!

You have given me a whole new list of things to think about!!

The small pieces that can be shipped by UPS- is there a 70lb weight limit like the PO?Do you just bubble wrap&peanuts and box?

I will have to check Craters and Freighters.

I have to agree that a sale will be made more easily with shipping arranged and easily price-quoted. But, I wanted other's opinions since see so many different ideas.

Thanks
