I am sure this subject would properly fall in the round table area, but I checked over there and found nothing but silliness, jokes, etc., and this is an important subject to me.
We have a rather large, very active web site, and we need to put in a "shopping cart" program.
DOES anyone here have a web site that uses a shopping cart program, and if so, which program and how do you like it?

I have one. I did not purchase my own program, but instead use a "rented" cart, so I don't need a SSL, I use theirs. It is called Creative Cart and they can be found at www.creativecart.com
It costs me $49.95 per month (It is based upon a monthly fee + a percentage of your sales, but the maximum they charge is $49.95).
I realize that I can probably just purchase a program, but their support is great, I don't have to get a security certificate, and everything relating to the shopping cart stays on their servers. It can be used with credit cards, or COD. They do not support real time processing, so I manually enter all the cards. This is not a problem for me, because many of my items are special orders and I don't want cards charged until items are ready to ship.

I use ShopZone on four of our sites, and MivaMerchant on one.
MivaMerchant is by far the best I have ever seen. It is an open system, so there are hundreds of third party "plug-in" modules that will do everything from processing credit cards, to pulling shipping rates live from UPS and USPS, to converting the site to 14 different languages on the fly.

OH, you all are so GREAT! I know any time I need to know something, someone here will have the answer.
Mr. Jim, yours sounds interesting to me, I'll check it out.
Kidsfeet the one you use, if it doesn't support real time processing, how is the info and the credit card numbers being sent to you? Is the sending to you not secure?
I just really appreciate everyone's assistance. This is my project for this week, I just can keep up with all the orders myself any longer, there is just too much paper work.

There are different modules available to do just about anything. One of the modules we purchased, tracks our inventory and automatically removes the items from the store when the last one is sold. You can also set it to display items as sold instead. The products stay dormant in the database, so if you get more in, you can adjust the quantity and it goes live. This function is also handy for your auctions...you can set up a "dummy" customer account called "auctions" and buy the items through that account. This will make the items dormant. At the end of the auction you can delete those sold and return the unsold items to the website in a couple seconds.
If you check out the "Galleria" at www.miva.com you can see 1000's of websites that use their software. For a list of modules available, what they do and how much they cost you can try: www.starbase21.com and www.designextend.com (I have bought modules from both)

Here is a good shopping cart site. You can put one on your website for free, or choose from different payment options for different features. antiqueresources.com/shopcart/
There is also a good shopping cart perl script here.
