really?

my impression is that the writer, while very much up to speed on the corporate side of ebay, would be very suprised to find those Beanie Baby sellers (as he characterizes "Collectibles" sellers) have the literacy skills and savvy to post to an online bulletin board.

Some ingenuous bits though....like the business exchange doubling...um....doubling a nickel is still only a dime....

Ebay, the Hatchet 5-ton gorilla of E-Commerce...
I can see Whitman running around with a huge bloody Machete in hand, looking for "potential competition" and screaming "Off with their head...off with their head..."

Here is what I think.

I think When ones Bussiness is good there is another doing poorly

I think they are pumping to much into the momentum of ebay at this time Weather they want to admit it or not the economy has been slowing down Growth is at 0.

ebay already had a ton of steam comeing Into this slow down just enough to keep it chugging along this far.

Feds have decressed interest rates bank are lowering there interest rates by june or july when the rest of the Internet comunity & country is feeling the Economy picking up again Ebay will Just be loseing steam by the fall of this year their noses at ebay are going to be bent there stock will be droping fast because of profit warning droping listing and all the things other bussineses are feeling now we will be hearing about ebay laying off 1000s to help there profit line maybe even rumor or more then rumor about bankruptcy.

All the while these new online auction site like bidville and epier that are growing faster daily will be getting bigger already one is nearing second or third in number of listings Ebay will be at the disadvatage with the lack of funds and falling stock and profit There advertizeing budget for this year with plans for tv and all is going to start being a big drain on them.

They are going to be going through the slow down into the ressesion many of us have been feeling the effects of that started last JULY 2000.

Slow downs and ressesions come in waves and Ebay seems to be one of the few on the trailing end of this one last to be hit last to recover or last to crash which ever way it happens.

I believe it is very posible that this could be the time a whole new #1 Auction site could come into being .

I say this because Right now on all Auction site though seller are still selling things are SLOW Seller are not selling as much seller and buyer have more time to rethink what they are doing since they are not selling full tilt there is time to play with inventory move it ajust where they sell I think mid spring earily summer the main economy is going to show significant grow comsumer confidence will be growing .

I think at this time all the movement and ajustment sellers and buyers have been makeing with moves from yahoo and ebay That in the next 18 to 20 months while ebay is trying to shake there slow down Something is going to drawf them.

In the End this change is not going to be about Incressing fees or like yahoo decideing to add fees its going to be simply because sellers and buyer both Are sick to death about big gaint companys braging how big and unstopable there Idea is and has become when all sellers and buyer know this is just not so the fact is that Ebay with out the Internet and all the sellers and buyers who really made the IDEA rock Ebay would be nothing but a local BBS for shareing Recipes.

I dont know which site will take the Ebay #1 place there isnt really one out there even close to the listing but I think its gonna happen because of an ebay selling slow down is goingto cause half of it small seller to wlak away from ebay some even from online auctions all togeather.

once sales slow down to much the big companies selling there will walk quietly and quickly away the disneys and so are like Ebay the bottom line is where its at for them and when they start loseing $$$ paying for people to keep sales there going they wont stay.

Companys may be selling $45 thousand dollar servers there now but the sale of one server every 6 or 10 months wont be worth there time and effort.

Just my Opinion frist media pump smoke up there B(#s there heads swell ten times larger just before the fall.

It makes sense that ebay wants a higher ASP (Average Selling Price) because of the FVF they charge, but why has Yahoo chosen to go that route? Sounds like a set up for a buy out by ebay. Ebay has buying up anything that is a threat.

I see the future and the future says much higher listing fees to scare away the smaller seller. Prepare now!
