Well, Ebay finally removed the option of finding someone's e-mail address. You can send a message to the person, sort of through Ebay.
Here's what their mails say at thebottom.
This email was sent by an eBay member via eBay's email forwarding system.
If you reply to the email, your response will go directly to the member and
not through eBay.
eBay does not tolerate spam (i.e., unsolicited commercial email) and is
taking steps to protect members from this abuse. In addition, solicitations
to buy or sell items outside of eBay violate eBay rules and are not covered
by services that protect members such as feedback, insurance, escrow, and
dispute resolution. If this is an offer to buy/sell items outside of eBay,
please do not participate. Enter the following link into your browser to learn
more. Link: http://pages.ebay.com/help/email_info.html
---
If they have enough problems keeping their site up, AND making sure that preferences aren't "accidentally" reset, how can they make sure these messages go through in a timely fashion?

I think were pretty much screwed. This is a bad idea! Think of all the bidders who email you in a rush trying to find out something. If you don't answer in time they may not bid! I have had bidders ask me questions within 15 minutes of close of auction. eBay is not concerned with spam, they just don't want sellers to make money off eBay. Its understandable to a point, but not when it starts becoming a hassle.

Well, I just thought I would check out the new email address thing. My intention was to request the email address of my seller ID by my buyer ID so I could see how long it took to get the information. Unfortunately all I get is a blank screen so the new program must not be functioning correctly right now.

I think this will affect a lot of sellers and buyers. My seller ID is my email address however I regularily check the email addresses of bidders to make sure that somebody is not bidding when I don't want them to. In other words, those bidders I have asked not to bid on my items who come back under a different ID.
As a Buyer I like to look at the email addresses of the other bidders so I can decide if there might be some stupid shill bidding going on. I say stupid because those are the ones who just get different IDs using the same server. The smart ones I might need to also check feedback and bidding history and still you can't tell.

I do the same thing as justbijou. You can tell when a seller is practicing shill bidding that way. You can also check if a bidder is fake that way by checking their email. I did it just the other day and ended a bid from someone who had an email like ([email protected]) or something similar to that. What are we gonna do now? (Clash remake now ringing in my head...)

In an active auction the seller can see all the bidders email addresses (I just checked on one of my auctions).
On closed auctions the winning bidder can get the seller's email address and the seller can get the winner's email address

I just got the results from my little email test. It took 5 minutes to get the email from my other user ID through Ebay.

justbijou -
5 minutes is too long IMO - it could mean the e-mails are being screened i.e. for certain terms that would indicate an outside-of-ebay sale?
Just a thought.

I found it slightly annoying today. I also post my email address in my listings, so I though, no big deal. But today, when I was doing my feedback, it bugged me! I have a certain process of leaving the feedback, and then clicking on their address to email them saying the item is on the way. Well, if the person has a NON-email address ebay user name, it did give me their email which I was able to click on and send mail directly from my email. If they used their email address as their user name, when I clicked on it I got the screen telling about the new policy. I only way I was able to find to get a email sent from me directly was to cut and paste the address and then open my mail seperatly and paste it there. Not a huge deal, but still time consuming and annoying nonetheless!

I just tested it myself from my selling account to my buying account, and it took less than 10 seconds for it to reach my email. I actually received the email faster than I received the copy I sent to the original address!

Considering eBay's new e-mail policy, what's to happen if a seller's winning bidder note is returned as undeliverable and/or the winning bidder doesn't respond to the seller's note?
How is the seller supposed to go about contacting the second-highest bidder? By jumping through all the hoops of filing a NPB form, requesting FVFs, and then...after a considerable wait....offering it to the next highest bidder??? Ugh! It seems as if this is now disallowed, considering the little addendum eBay places at the bottom of email messages sent through their server. Aha! But of course......the relist option is there for sellers....now, why didn't I think of that??? Seems like eBay did!

And of course ebAAyPro hasn't updated their software to work with this new feature. Unable to retreive any email address to contact bidders.
Guess it's back to manually doing everything.
