The most basic filter AGAINST spam is to trash anything where the sending ISP doesn't match the ISP responsible for the FROM adddress ... that keeps all the forged headers from cluttering the users' mail boxes.

The blithering eBidiots that designed the email forwarder did it in a way that would trigger spam filters!

It's FROM the sender's email that is on record at eBay, BUT the servers are eBay's.
They have GUARANTEED that all eBay relayed mail will end up in the spam traps of dozens of ISPs.

Damn, I didn't think of that! A lot of isp's, etc dont accept relayed mail. Hell, I have even blocked relayed mail from my servers before....

Yes ... and the method eBay recommends to avoid this problem (for those ISPs that have user configured email filters) is to TURN OFF THE FILTERS.

Geeee ... they are saving us from spam with a method that requires us to turn the spam filters OFF. Why am I not surprised?

I can set my filters to whitelist anything coming from ebay's IP address range, but few users can do this.

I had the same problem. Luckily, I have my spam filters send the mail it catches to a special folder, instead of deleting it, and every few days I do a quick check to see if it caught anything it shouldn't have. While checking my spam folder this weekend I found several "Question for seller" emails.

In Outlook Express it is easy to fix. I just made a rule that sends email with the phrase "Question for seller" in the subject line to the appropriate folder.

Well, I just used my Pop3 ScanMailBox to see what email is on my server that my spam filters are keeping from my Outlook Express.

I had a buyer use BIN this morning, and she must have emailed me through estupid's mail server, because there is her email to me about the item.

I had already sent my EOA letter to her, but this really concerns me about this new "system".

I don't see a "Question for seller" in the subject line, only the auction number. I'm not sure why my filters stopped this email, but regardless it chomps.

I wonder how long until estupid back-peddles on this? Time to send another complaint email.

I had the same thing happen Meya.

I had to tweak my spam filters to allow "Question for seller" so they would end up in my Inbox.

The strange part is, like yours, the most recent one I received from a high bidder DID NOT have that in the subject line, and ended up in my Trash.

Reddeer, was the email that ended up in your trash sent after the auction was over? I'm wondering if the email sent thru Ebay says "Question for seller" while the auction is open and something different after the auction ends.

I would be ROTFLMAO over the irony, except that this isn't at all funny!

I had the same problem. I use Hotmail - and set up a filter to make sure all emails with "Question for seller" is delivered to my inbox instead of my bulk mail junkbox...

Wonder how long before spammers start using that as their subject line to get through our filters..? *sigh*

At least I got the workaround in place before I missed any questions!

It was sent after the auction was over, but I went & tried the same thing on one of my completed auctions, with a different email addy & ISP, and it does indeed say "Question for seller" on the eBay form. That one ended up in the Trash as well.

Wunnerful .........

I don't get it...ever since eBay changed the mail system anything from eBay is being filtered to the trash as Spam. I had to retreive my EOA notices from the deleted folder. I had to change my setting so the trash isn't emptied when I close the browser. This is a pain in the butt.

I wonder if ebay has thought about this problem. I have my email address on my auction page as well.

I was experimenting and found that mail sent thru Ebay by clicking on the "Ask the seller a question" link will include the phrase "Question for seller" in the subject line and you can use that in your email filters. But, if someone sends email thru Ebay by clicking on your user ID, the sender can write his own subject line. However, the message does include "To member:" and "From member:". So, you can set a message rule that catches email with "To member:", "From member:", and your Ebay ID in the message area.

My ISP filters spam through Spaminator (Bright Mail). Guess I better go over there and check the spam (I usually just let it build up for a week and then delete it all) and see if there are any Ebay emails over there. Looks like this has created a nightmare for some people!
