Hi,
I just had a bidder who says they refuse to complete the transaction unless I give them my home phone numer!
I had nothing but BAD experience with bidders wanting my home phone number. One sent a personal check, 2 days after I recived it, called and said "check cleared on my side, did you maill it yet" which I told her the check takes 12 days for my bank to give a OK. 2 days later, called again "where is my stuff" and was virtually harrassed every 2 days! on the 9 th day called and said "You are the slowest seller in ebays! My checked cleared 10 days ago!" (note a day before I deposited it!) then a month after i mailed, kept getting harrassed for "I didnt recive the item!" despite tracking claim otherwise! So I had to change my number!
OK, then another persistant bidder wanted my number, I rented a voice mail, and he kept calling and leaving messages! I am a very private person and I just dont like to talk to strangers on the phone!
Well today another bidder wants my phone number. I dont have a voice mail anymore (too expensive) I never stated on my auction that i WILL give you my phone number if you win my auction! What can I do? If I file non pay at ebays, I dont want a negative from him, but I just dont want to give my unlisted phone number to this newest bidder. What should I tell him? Any adivse would help! thanks!

If you don't want to give him your number ask for his and tell him you will call him so he won't have to pay the long distance charges. he will probably appreciate that and it won't add up to much and you can make personal contact that way. I have done it both ways with no problem so I guess I have been lucky so far. anyways just MHO.

You could also call for free through Dialpad.com - I use that to call any long distance numbers.. and it's totally free..

tomyou~ I have cable modem and never have any problems. The other person can hear an echo sometimes but otherwise it's great. I use it for all my long distance calls - and so do my parents. Free long distance, can't beat that! Dialpad is the best out there, I've tried several other services - nothing compares.

Ultraman - I'm with tomyou & ExecGirl. If you do call them be sure not to use your phone as they may have caller ID unless you block your number or use Dialpad then you don't have to worry.
ExecGirl - Regarding that echo on DialPad, have you plugged in earphones instead of the PC's speakers? Earphones keep the echo from being heard by the person you are talking to.
Someone told me to use them & it worked.
Any old walkman type earphones will work.

I use a voicemail # for my eBay contact info. I have an unlisted # also. You can get a free voicemail/fax/email account at onebox.com---you can set it up to notify you at whatever email you want when a message comes in.

What number is listed with your Ebay contact info?
Tell him to look it up there, then you will also have his.

I emailed safeharbor about a bidder at one time, and if I recall correctly, they said an active voice mailbox would work. Why couldn't you use a pager for this? That would only cost about $5.00 a month. You could also turn it off any time you wanted.
