Hi everyone. I have enjoyed learning from you seasoned sellers out there. Here is my problem. I have a winning bidder that won't pay, but keeps saying he will. His wife is in the hospital, and I don't think he checks his e-mail daily. Anyway., auction ended on February 8th. He asked if he could pay on Feb 14th via paypal. I agreed. I sent him an invoice on the 14th, and he did not reply until the 19th. I e-mailed him again with his shipping options (it's a DVD) and asked him to confirm. I heard from him again on the 23rd, and he was very apologetic and said he would mail right away. I am becoming skeptical. How long would you wait? The total fee's for the auction are only $1. He seems to be having personal issues and E-bay is probably the last thing he is thinking about. Should I just e-mail him and propose we let it go, and I'll just relist. I'm not too worried about my fee's. He has no negative feedback and is relatively new.

Welcome to the world of eBay....This is an every day thing for me, about 10 to 20% of my eBay sales are Deadbeats (never pay) or very slow pays...not much you can do other than what you have done, keep up the emails until you grow tired of it, then place a non paying bidder alert on him and re-list your item....leave feedback if you want.

Hi,
I've only been selling for a year but it is truly amazing how many people end up in the hospital right after they purchase something on line. Must be like breaking a mirror.
Cynic (sp?) that I am, I would check his bidding activity often I find these poor stressed people seem to find relief in continuing to shop despite whatever tragedy has befallen them.
If there is no activity, I would try to give them more time but not let them drag me out beyond the time limits of filing the NPB, and FVF requests.
Just my penny for thought!?

I've been selling a little over 2 years.

I have a 14 day payment receival (is that a word?) in my TOS & EOA. I used to wait unitl about the 13th day and then send them a little note stating that I have'nt received their payment. Like I said, I used to.

Now I have eBay send the winner a Non-Paying Bidder Alert. This usually grabs their attention.

If the winner does'nt contact me after the NPBA, I let it go up to a month to see if they've sent the payment or not. If not, I move foreward and neg 'em after the 1 month limit.

GOOD LUCK!

After 2 years I realized that 90% of the deadbeat bidders that do contact you, are either dying or someone they love is dying.

The last excuse I got is that the person was broke and even their cable and phone were shut off because they could not afford their bills.

That's funny, can you now get AOL on your toaster? Also, why were they still bidding on other auctions?

That is a good way to check them. See if they have any recent bids.

Thanks for the replies. Weeeellll, I checked his feedback again an hour ago, and there are a couple of neg's, just posted recently. The negs do not make sense to me tho. There are two, from the same Ebayer. Something about not accepting a bid....I wish one of you could check it out for me. E-me and I'll give you his User ID. I don't think I should post it here.
