I was looking a Goodwill auctions - and there are items on there that have also been listed on Ebay. These items were unique in nature and very, very unlikely there is more than one (old pictures, etc.). There was also an auction for an item that had been listed on Ebay, with the same pictures, description, everything (it had sold on Ebay). Who sells on Goodwill (I thought it was only Goodwill stores)? Do they also sell on Ebay? I'm missing something.

They're not suppose to be offering the same items on auction that they are currently selling on eBay.
You should forward the information to [email protected] for investigation because if what you say is true, Goodwill is breaking the rules. (Unless eBay has made some kind of exception for them) *sigh*

this is clearly a case where you need to mind your own business. unless you are a "certified professional" in the area of the items you have no way of knowing if there is more than one. photos have negatives and older photos from 40's etc can have negatives shot of them. i have a photographer friend who does this all the time. as for listing on 2 sites, so what, i list items at the same time on several sites, 99.9% of the time it sells on ebay only. this looks like another case of someone with too much time on their hands, so they figure they will play net police.........time to get a life people. i am continuly amazed at the amount of putting noses in others business on this board. answering questions and helping others is one thing but just putting your nose where it has no business is another. MIND YOUR OWN BUSINESS!!!!

Fattyman,
I think you are totally in the wrong as a seller like myself who has sold over 6000 items on ebaY over the years.I would never list the same thing on 2 seperate sites unless I had 2 of the same.
What happens if you sell both items then what are going to do.
I never play net cop but I disagree with a seller doing this.

you are certainly entitled to your own opinion but just remember personal opinions are not law.just because one would do one thing doesn't mean its the way all should...if that makes sense......

billd26: If you have concerns that a particular seller is not playing by the rules, you can contact [email protected] so that the folks at eBay can investigate the situation.

I'm not trying to play police. I am simply trying to understand how Goodwill's auction site works. I thought that the only people that could sell on Goodwill's auction site were actual Goodwill stores. Is this right? If this is right, then how do the same items end up on Ebay and Goodwill? It wouldn't make sense for Goodwill to sell on Ebay if they have their own auction site. I was just wondering if I was missing something here and was curious before I bid on something on Goodwill.
Fattyman, "answering questions and helping others is one thing but just putting your nose where it has no business is another" - you didn't answer one of my questions and simply launched an unwarranted attack on me. I am continually amazed at the amount of unwarranted attacks on this board! Time to get a life...

bill: the reason they sell on 2 sites is because ebay probably gets a ton more business/sales/$$$ than the Goodwill site. They are trying to make more money by selling X widget in two places.
We're assuming they only have one of an item, but we don't know for sure. IMO, it's sleazy to list on two sites at once unless you have multiples of an item. It may work perfectly 99% of the time but that 1% of the time a customer will get SKREWED which is a no-no in my book. if you have multiples it's not a problem.
I would probably report it to safeharbor for investigation if i had the time, but I don't have the hours in the day to police ebay's auctions for them...i do think it's fair to do it, though---they're not doing the right thing.
