I want to buy an item. There are none currently for sale on Ebay. There was one that was for auction a couple of weeks ago but received no bids.
When I sent an e-mail to the seller (first time I've used the new mail feature) asking if they still had it, the e-mail included:

In addition, solicitations to buy or sell items outside of eBay violate eBay rules and are not covered by services that protect members such as feedback, insurance, escrow,
and dispute resolution. If this is an offer to buy/sell items outside of eBay, please do not participate.
--- snip ---
What kind of BS is that. "do not participate" ...
I guess the only way to do this within Ebay's rules would be to ask the seller to relist the item?

Maybe the seller thinks you are an eBay mole - the worst kind of creature ever created. Libby's advice is good. I would also send an email to eBay and tell them to gently place their idiot policy where the sun don't shine
Good luck - hope you get the item you're looking for ...

Actually, my big "beef" with what Ebay said is their quote:
"Do not participate" ...
how are we even supposed to come to the agreement to relist the item with Ebay flat out telling the person "do not participate" with anyone trying to buy or sell the item?
I guess this is just further proof that Ebay thinks we're all out to rip them off of their fees!
