One could buy a domain name for 20 bucks, it's not hard to do and then you pay from 20 on up to a hosting service monthly. You now have a Web site of your own.
You download a free FTP program, you can upload pics in mere seconds with FTP and you have lots and lots of space, not like a freebie personal web page hosted by some isp's or other places that clutter your listings with advertisements.
This is what I do and I just wanted to let y'all know how easy it is. I am no techi, and it took me a little to figure out FTP, but it's da bomb man. http://members.ebay.com/aboutme/[email protected]/

And like me, while you are using the hosting for your images, you can be scheming on how to turn your web page into a money making machine or at least use it to point to your auctions.
I've been so busy mine is just sitting there doing nothin on the public side, but I'll get it going one of these days!
some are free for trial, some to buy, I'm going to upgrade here pretty soon, because I think I shouldnt be using the free one anymore. I can't remember exactly where I downloaded it, it's been awhile.

posted on March 1, 2001 04:56:51 AM newreddeer I think once the initial leap (really more like a little hop) to using an FTP program is taken, you'll really enjoy using it. I've used WsFTP for years now. you can get it at http://www.ipswitch.com It's really no different than using Windows Explorer, except that you see a split screen with your local drive on one side and your server on the other. After the initial setup (really the hardest part, but now you will have a REAL LIVE tech person to talk to because it's YOUR server) the rest is cake. Choose the files that you want to upload, press the arrow and you're in business.
It really makes sense for people doing online auctions seriously to learn these things...it's part of doing business.

Thanks guys, hope this info doesn't mysteriously vanish before the others who need it get a chance to see it. I sure need all the info I can get.
I had an AW friend email me last night, I downloaded the trial version of CUTEFTP, figured it out [sorta], and she also gave me space to her server.
I don't mind paying for the CUTEFTP software, but I have no intentions of paying AW to list my auctions. It's back to the good ol days of creating my own auctions on eBay.
Hell, I even figured out the HTML to do "click to enlarge" pics, and listed a test auction late last night, and everything worked.

Happy Happy Joy Joy! I deleted my previous site from my Road Runner space and started over. Downloaded WS_FTP, redid all my settings, and it worked!!!!
Back to making my own templates, no logos or banners on my auctions, and 5mb space free.
WS_FTP seems pretty easy too, I like the interface better than I did Cute_FTP.

Thanks to all of you for the great links and advice!
I hope to get around to having my own web page one day soon ... but until then, I'm VERY happy with my ISP's hosting service, and it's only $2 per month. (BellSouth)
Our images are crisp and load really fast (important in an auction!), and our BellSouth image hosting server has gone down only once in two years, and then only for about one hour. Also, I can have as many pix as I like in our auctions.
We decided at the beginning to pay the $2 per month, to be in control, suffer little or no downtime, have good, fast-loading images, and as many pix as we want. Also, when you pay, you get a real live tech person to talk to if something goes wrong or you have a question.
Agree with all that FTP is a cinch! Try it, you'll like it!
posted on March 1, 2001 09:54:08 AM newreddeer, just a heads up. Cute FTP is classified as spyware and I would recommend getting rid of it. It includes the notoriously nasty Radiate/Aureate software.
QUOTED from http://www.adcop.org/smallfish/radiate.htm
"Besides transmitting ads, Aureate-ware can update itself. The EULA states "By using this software, you agree that you understand that this software will connect to the Internet UBIQUITOUSLY to download advertisement and/or to provide software updates."
END QUOTE
You will have to use AdAware to get rid of the spyware module after you uninstall Cute FTP because the uninstall won't remove the bad guy. Yep, they're pretty sneaky.
I have been using the free version of WS_FTP for years and highly recommend it. The version is WS_FTP LE 5.08 and is located on this page: http://www.ipswitch.com/cgi/download_eval.pl?product=main I hope you don't think I'm prying but I think you're a nice guy and I really hate for you to have this piece of garbage on your computer without your knowledge.
