In response to a question in an earlier thread....

It is possible to host pictures on a host (such as AW) and launch your auctions directly from eBay.

You have to first have the picture loaded onto a web site.

Then, to put the picture into your auction at the bottom of the listing, you simply put the URL (location of the picture, its address) into the space eBay gives you on the 'sell item' form.

To include them in the body of your auction the HTML code is:

<img src="http://the ULR of your picture">

Just replace the ULR of your picture with the actual URL address.

Good point Bill, important to note, you can put as many pics as you need into the body of the message. Just be sure to not have too many or the auction will take forever to load. Also, watch those image sizes! 250 pixels across seems about right? Correct me if I'm wrong! Use a cruncher or lower resolution too.

Now, lets wait a minute and see if they lock this thread... 3 ... 2 .... 1 .....

I keep asking AW if they are going to charge for imagehosting if you do not lauch your auction from them. I get no response. It is not covered in the what is and what is not a fee service. I thought of using this old method of attaching images, but I do not know if it will remain free.

Also, you CAN use large pics on your auctions, and use HTML to make a "click to enlarge" photo.

Here's the info you need.

Doing thumbnails are pretty easy, after you get the knack of HTML code. Let's say you have the URL of your image (simplified to 'X' for instructional-sake) and it's put into your auction ad template like so:

<img src=X>

Then to make a thumbnail, you then change the IMG tag with the constrained width or height that you desire. Most people worry about width, and constrain it at 200 pixels, like so:

<img src=X WIDTH=200>

So that'll make your image a thumbnail, but it's not clickable to the fullsize version. To do that, you surround the IMG tag with the A tag to link it to the same URL of your image, like so:

<a href=X><img src=X WIDTH=200></a>

You may also want to put instructions for your buyer to click on the image to get the enlarged version.

Also, if you want to add a lot of pics...and you're lazy (like me ), you can stitch them all together in your photo editing program and just use ONE URL for all of them. I put 5 or 6 together at a whack sometimes...

Recently, I sold a set of tiles and stitched 14 pics together. Easy, peasy.

Yes, you used to be able to use AW for hosting, even if you didn't launch from here, but you still had to have their banner or ad on the auction. I'm sure they are not going to allow anyone to park pictures here and copy and paste the urls as we could in the past. I would imagine that in order to upload your pictures to begin with, you'll have to go through a page that will take care of the charges involved.

I had said that I would use AW if they kept the fee at 5 cents per picture, but have since gotten my web space figured out and FTP working again. So, it's back to doing it myself again.

You can have 5 cents per image, but you can't have a cut of my sales.
