There's a very interesting and informative thread going on regarding the best time of day and week to end an auction.

Let's put a different spin on this:

What do you find is the best time of MONTH to end an auction?

I've found without a doubt, that when I end auctions from the around the 15th to the 25th of the month, my sell-through is downright pitiful. But from the 26th to the 14th, it's great!

I haven't quite been able to figure out why. I've been selling for a year now and this seems to be the pattern month after month, with the exception of December, of course. Business was quite brisk no matter what the date.

To put my experience in perspective, I sell mainly books.

So it would be helpful if you mention in a general way what you sell when you give your experience. We could then see if certain categories seem to have their own peculiar monthly cycles.

My DH (the main breadwinner in our little family) gets his paycheck direct deposited once per month into our checking account. The company deposits it on the 28th of each month. So, maybe the prices are higher because people haven't had time to blow their paychecks in the first half of the month.

manic depression...

People are depressed from paying all their bills during the early part of the month....then after a couple of paychecks get into their pockets, they feel they deserve some more stuff...*G*

Heck, I'm poor all the time so I just bid whenever the mood strikes me...

Ah, to be self-employed....*G*

I sell mostly trading cards on ebay and must agree with you. Anytime after the 26th of the month and into the first week of the next month seem to be the best times for sales for me (except the occasional kid that has to wait for their allowance to pay me).
Small sales (@1.00) seem to go well at any time.

However, during my time of the month I seem to attract all the deadbeats and whackos. I consider it a test of my resiliency, and always wait to cool off before answering.

Thanks, some great responses so far!

These cycles, while certainly related to how much disposable income people have to spend, also must relate to how much they NEED the item in their viewpoint.

I sold a lot of my kids' used clothing last year, and I didn't notice any particular cycle there. I imagine that's because people need clothes for their kids all the time. It's a necessity.

For me, books are a necessity. I'd be lost without them.

But there's only so much money to go around, so I guess for most buyers the clothes would come first and the books would wait until there's some money to throw my way.

Anyone else?

Let's hear from some people who sell CD's, videos, antiques, etc.

It'd be interesting to see if monthly cycles ARE more related to items that aren't strictly necessities (of course my luxury might be your necessity, etc.) vs. items people need on an ongoing basis.
