Are you sure about that?
Winning bidder wanted to buy another item like he won (another that didn't sell), so I said OK, your total will be $22.15 instead of $12.45. He sends a money order for $13.00.
Another fun one is that I'm selling a new case for a trumpet. I get this email today: Important! is it an actual case that a real trumpet can fit into?
Another one is that I have a vintage guitar on ebay. Not a real valuable one, just a cheapie. I just cleaned it up and put a set of new strings on it so it's ready to go. A potential bidder emailed and asked me to totally disassemble the guitar to give him numbers off of the parts. LOL! Like I'm really going to do that just to get his "maybe" bid.
No thanks.

Years ago, I worked in a retail store in a shopping mall. I don't know if this chain still exists or not, it was called Software Etc.
Anyway, I was constantly amazed and occasionally very frustrated by the questions, 'special requests', and complaints (that I felt were mostly unjustified) we would get.
The point being, this is not an eBay thing, or an internet thing - it's just old fashioned customer service and dealing with the public. It goes with the territory of retail sales.
The major difference I can see between that job and eBay is that as an eBay seller, you make the decisions, set the policy, etc. No more 'home office' in Milwaukee to contend with. A drastic improvement, IMO.

An email I received today- "how much is shipping, and I don't pay handling." I had to refrain from replying with a sarcastic remark, I don't ship items with just an address label. Or, go to the store and spend $2 on gas. No, I'll let him bid on someones else's item.
I also got a negative, "Seller relisted my item." I relisted an identical item, his was just mailed.
My second neg in 1½ years said, "Not happy with item, not MOC." First, there was a clear picture of the item, and it's in a polybag, not a card. Second, it's perfect condition, and the polybag is unopened. What more could one ask?

I won't pay handling..."well, if I don't HANDLE it...it won't get from my house to yours because the wrapping-packing-addressing-take it and stand in line at the post office fairy up and quit!"
