I want to try listing a personal services auction. This would be for a phone call of a specified duration that the buyer could make to me at a mutually convenient time wherein I would play the part of an older and experienced male friend who could help with advice, issues clarification, a sympathetic ear, coaching in life strategies, business counseling, spouse issues, money/credit problems, or just about anything else someone wanted to talk about -- but NOT therapy. (I'm pretty experienced in these areas, have a good telephone voice and an empathetic personality),

My expectation - preference actually - is that clients would primarily be women.

I'm kinda stuck now on categories for the listing. "Other:Services" seems to be full of bubble wrap, info cds, and maybe in general has a young male bias. Any suggestions? Terrible idea? List under "Books:Romance?" Just get more sleep?

Hmmm. I used to work a 976 number as a dominatrix while I was in college, but I've never thought of selling THAT on Ebay. I'm sure I'd have some takers among my male lingerie buyers!!!

Seriously, I think your idea is a bit too vague. If there's a sexual or dominant or whatever component, you need to be up front about it or people will be confused and want to call you for handyman advice or for a psychic reading.

I love to b*tch and complain on the phone to my friends, but I don't think I would pay for it. Just my 2 cents....

Thanks, all, for the help. E - Girl, Keen.com is pretty interesting and I might find a corner there to try this thing. Brighid, I'm sure you're right and I want to work on the focus. For now, I'm taking JWPC's advice first!

Now, Pastor, if you're working in the areas Brighid refers to, you really ought to be charging a little more -- I'm sure that stuff is not on your job description! ; )

Sorry for the double post -- I really shouldn't do this while talking on the phone...

So basically you want to be a CONSULTANT in the areas of business and financial planning. Just advertise that type of service on an hourly basis...
