Well I just ran across one of the sloppiest sellers I've had the pleasure to buy from.
First their ad states $3 for shipping, nothing about a handling fee, but that's my fault for not asking, that's not what I thought was the sloppy part. He actually charged me $4 for shipping and mailed it for $1.81!
Plus the ad states only $13.95 when his opening bid is $14.95. What a dingbat.
If you are going to list a price and a shipping cost in your ad, at least get them right and PLEASE PLEASE, if you charge a handling fee, please state as such. It's very irritating to find out later.

Personally, as a Seller, and a seldom buyer, if the buyer did mention shipping in his ad, but didn't mention handling, but then tried to charge for it, I would refuse. To me, this would be an OBVIOUS attempt to hide the charge they KNEW they would be trying to collect.....I personally don't think it was a boo boo that it wasn't in the ad, I believe it was deception.

One piece of advice from a 100+ buyer (96 from just buying), don't bid on items if all fees are not disclosed. There should always be something about the shipping. Also if the ad looks disorganized, the person probably is too.
If a person tries to add fees that were not disclosed, then there is no "meeting of the minds". Meeting of the minds is what is required for a contract to be valid. If both parties look at the situation differently there is no contract. It is like the guy who goes to the auto repair shop and asks them to repair a broken door handle. But the repair shop replaces the entire door. NO MEETING OF THE MINDS!
When you say the ACTUAL shipping was $1.81, you probably aren't considering the other shipping overhead. Read a few other posts related to shipping charges.
